Maybe you should add some chino to soften it up. I don't think it looks scrappy at all. Your theme is shirts -- all kinds -- and the design is fabulous. I made a tote with my husband's old shirts and love working with shirting fabric. In fact, I made a special trip to NYC garment district just to stock up on shirting. There was an amazing variety. Keep going -- finish it -- I think you may love it in the end!

I could repeat your opening line for my own story and finish with the same quilt. My youngest son is 23 and this looks very similar to what I have in mind to make for his quilt. I love it and I am sure you son will too.

It's terrific. I love scrappies and this is a super quilt. Just keep at it and I'm sure you'll love it too when it's completed and quilted.

I think you've done a great job on it, what's not to like?

Definitely a keeper. I started a string quilt (like Ditters) out of plaids. I did several rows and disliked it very much, way to busy. My husband didn't care for it either. It looked like Paul Bunyon yakked up all his plaid shirts. A friend was over one day, I showed it to her and she said it wasn't as bad as I thought and to keep going. I did and now it's one of our favorite quilts. I say keep going, I think it looks great.
