I did really good for 2018 not buying anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary- no added stash at all and used what I had. I started the quilt ville mystery quilt the day after Thanksgiving and pulled everything from my shelves. Managed to clean them up & saw some real progress in making a dent. I still have ( tons) of scraps- they feel overwhelming and out of control. But I’m making progress. I hope another year of moratorium participation will help me get rid of the scraps too. I have ( shared) scraps with anyone who wants them- need to find more people who want them. I’m more than willing to send them away- since they multiply faster than I can possibly use them.

I am pretty happy with the shelves now.

Good for you, ckcowl! Doesn't it feel great to see some progress? Thanksgiving clean-up got me a cleared spot on my spare bedroom floor! Yipee!!

Rob that's what I told my husband too when I shopped the Black Friday weekend sales and couldn't resist. Opened one package but the other I'll probably put under the tree as well.

Great job, Ckcowl! When you use your scraps, you should post on the thread about using up scrap mounds. Your projects could certainly inspire others to use the scraps hiding in the stash mounds.

Rob... Good thinking! I bought a new Iron, wrapped it, and wrote on label "To me...From me..." I gave DH a short short list of easily packable things...I think they call them "gift cards". Lol!

Okay, I joined the moratorium and it did help me to avoid temptation. I didn’t do any sales (I have plenty of fabric) at Thanksgiving.

So now, I will set up goals for 2019. I think it has made me spend my time more wisely and I am working on finishing started projects. In fact, speaking of which, I need to sew on a binding for a Christmas quilt I plan to give my mom. I know she will like it and I hope it will cheer her up. She lost her oldest dog last year, her constant companion, she does have one dog left but still it was hard on her.

Thank you to everyone here on this thread for sharing their sucesses (and slips). Even though I haven't posted much the past few months, I have followed along, and it has been a huge help!

I didn't do too bad on my moratorium for the year. I spent less than $100 on quilting fabrics for the stash since January, almost all were FQs in colors I was woefully short on for my scrappies. So not exactly a "need", since they aren't for a specific project, but not exactly a "want" either.

I did spend a little more than I would have liked on quilting related things I needed, like threads and stabilizers when I was gifted an embroidery machine for my birthday, full bolts of W&N and interfacing at 70% off, and the like, but those should last me at least a year or two before I have to restock, and will serve me well to finally get more UFOs completed.

Overall, I am pretty pleased with how I did on my moratorium this year. I will be committing to another year. The ultimate goal is to get all my stash down to a single bookshelf one way or another!

i did pretty well with the pre-holiday sales at my LQS. I got some backing fabric, $5 a yard, so a really good deal and I even think I know which quilt I'm going to use it on. I also got a yard of fabric at a thrift store, but used it immediately. I made a gift bag & posted it in the pictures forum.
