2020 Fabric Moratorium

I have been pretty "quiet" this month, but here is a finish. Top was from a Riley Blake jelly roll that I had in my stash, batting pieced from scrap. I did need to purchase backing. I stumbled on a Riley Black coordinating fabric from a LQS and bought two yards. Thought I would be able to make a second quilt from the jelly roll but , the jelly roll scraps are ones that I don't like with the backing yardage. Ah, well, I will find a place for all of the scraps. I have another top on the design wall, all scraps from stash. Hope to finish by the end of the month.

I used almost 21 yards of fabric this month. I don’t usually do backings, but this month a couple of backings are included with that number along with 3 tops. I put a backing on a quilt for a friend’s daughter who wanted to save her great grandmother’s quilt. The top was made from polyester squares mostly. So add the 21 yards to the 45 or so yards I donated of mostly Christmas fabric to a garage sale fundraiser and I have reduced my stash by 66 yards approximately! Wahoo!

Amazing, Retiredteacher.! I have never tracked total fabric used per month for any of my current projects, UFOs or moratorium finished. Humm, some thing to try just for the fun of it. Educators are such data gatherers.

WMUTeach: A few years ago, I read that other people were keeping track so I decided to give it a try. I’m not as good at recording my purchased amounts but this year I only purchased once because of the virus so that was easy. Donations that I receive aren’t included in the tally. It does feel good to do data gathering I like and not the kind I needed to do while teaching. 🤷♀️ Fortunately, I taught first grade most of my career and didn’t need to do as much as teachers in upper grades.
