UFO Finishes 11, 12 and 13

3 Attachment(s)
Great finishes everyone! I spent most of last week working on some new projects and a BoM that I joined (my first ever!) but today I have some UFOs to show you. All 3 of these will be donated to Project Linus.

"Boxed in Brights" is my own design using 7.5" Happy Blocks alternating with bright squares. The B&W fabrics were from a FQ swap.

"Rainbow Sherbet-Hold the Lime!" was made from a group block exchange. I sent out the center squares and asked for borders to be added in shades of yellow, orange and pink by the other quilters.

"Purple 9 Patch on Lime" was made from the pattern Nine Patch from the book "Even More Quilts for Baby" by Ursula Reikes.

This was so hard to do! It was my first quilt I did by myself! It was only suppose to take 2 months, and it took me six  My little girl (3) loved helping me with it! I hope the little boy who gets it from Quilt for Kids likes it!

Here is my finish for February. This quilt has sat in a bag for two years. I started it after my sister visited. We both picked out a charm pack and a yard of fabric. We were going to make each others quilt for my mom's birthday (Feb.21). I sewed the pattern I picked but it grew and grew. I added more charm packs and another fun print from the set. It ended up 110x105! My plan was to quilt motifs on it using my new sewing machine my sister had helped me pick out. But I was warned it would be so unmanageable and I should send it out to be quilted. I had already pinned it, according to another sisters directions. And out of frustration, I bagged the quilt and ignored it. Last Saturday I pulled it out, intending to cut it down to a lap/full size and continue my plan to quilt it myself. I told Fraew my plan and she FORBID me to cut it down. I think she actually said..."Put your big girl panties on and get busy!" :D With her encouragement all week long (and luvTooquilt and Yosamitesa) AND a sudden enrollment into a freemotion class at my LQS, here is my FINISH!!! I did finish the quilting by mom's birthday. I did the binding yesterday and I'll mail it out next week. I can't wait for my sister to get it. She only knows I was making her something fun on Mom's birthday. (Unless she's watching here.. lol)

asimplelife - 11, 12, and 13? Now you are just showing off!! But seriously, the quilts are beautiful.
GirllivingforJesus - your first quilt? You did a great job. Love the colors.
SheriR - finished after two years? You did a stupendous job. The quilting looks great too. Is that fleece on the back?

SheriR 02-23-2013 03:31 PM

Michelleoc, I back it in cream flannel. I'm glad the quilting shows on the back.

carriem 02-23-2013 03:57 PM

Sheri--very pretty quilt. I am glad you were talked out of cutting it down.

Sauki1 02-23-2013 04:07 PM

Cat,

Where did you find this quilt pattern? It's great!

Gasp Sheri! That's just gorgeous! It just took my breathe away! Ya did it girl! Way ta go!

GirlLivingForJesus 02-23-2013 05:08 PM

Michelle it was my first one quilted by myself with no help!It would have been a lot better if I had a walking foot, but the one I bought was broke  It has a million mistakes, but I'm glad I finally got it done!

Tons of pretty quilts on here!

createfourpaws 02-23-2013 06:58 PM

I have finally complete the top of the t-shirt quilt I have been working on for 1 yr now. So it is finally finished, now to get the backing for it. The person I am making it for said she wanted a microfiber for the durabality of it. I am not sure it that will be a good fit for a quilt. they are thinking because you can buy the microsuede/microfiber bedspreads that is should work.

Any ideas on that? I am trying to give them what they want but also will be quilting it on my home machine. It is queen size, just havent measured it completely for the exact measurements.

I am hoping to have this done within the next month, considering I am only able to work on it on the weekends.

hawk 02-23-2013 10:04 PM

Another quilt top made Nov. 2011--now quilted and on my grandson's bed. Bright crayon colors and race cars! So not resting on my laurels I have moved on to a Civil War UFO. No it isn't THAT old. It is merely a repro Civil War fabric quilt.
So for those keeping score at home: two completely done quilts AND two quilt tops finished and ready for someone else to quilt.

dublb 02-24-2013 12:43 AM

Way ta go hawk!!!!!!

This is the second table runner that I had started at Christmas. The first one was gifted at Christmas and this one is for me. Not perfect but I like it and will use it.

dublb 02-24-2013 12:54 PM

Oh those are just beautiful! Great that ya did one for yourself.

Lara122 02-24-2013 07:40 PM

Mary, those table runners are both fantastic! Is that a more narrow binding than half inch, maybe? I'd like to try less than half inch on a table runner, and I had a devil of a time thinking up strip width. I finally went with my 'usual'!! ugh

carriem 02-24-2013 07:47 PM

Mary--great job getting these runners finished!

MisDixie 02-24-2013 07:54 PM

Tried and tried, but no luck even with resizing. Thankfully quilting is not a fustrating as computer work. LOL

Foxflower 02-24-2013 10:05 PM

SheriR, I'm so glad you didn't cut that down. It's gorgeous and your quilting looks great!

Great job finishing folks.

dublb 02-25-2013 08:47 AM

Oh no! MisDixie - I't's really frustratin' when ya can't git the computer ta cooperate. (Huggs)

Lara, they finished at 3/8. Measurements?!? We're supposed to measure? LOL. I started with a 2 1/2 strip but my seam was a smidge too big for what I wanted so I trimmed it a smidge before I turned it. Then I tried a decorative stitch on the front to stitch it down. I think it worked for this runner because the pattern is so busy, not sure I'd do the same again. But I am proud of the corners...my best effort yet.

LOVE IT! Thank you.

Lara122 02-25-2013 11:40 AM

Too funny Mary!! I start with the same size strip! I like that flange technique for machine bindings. otherwise, I do hand. =)

I saved the directions for doing a flange binding, but I keep forgetting to try it!

QuilterMomma 02-25-2013 04:24 PM

SheriR, how are those big girl panties fitting now? LOL :o

dublb 02-25-2013 04:30 PM
