I am getting anxious for my quilting group's retreat the first weekend of June. We Zoom regularly and they all laughed today when I told them I was bringing 6 quilts to layer.(We will have space to layer on tables! Yeah!) Four quilt tops are UFOs, so I will be doing my best to catch up on my promise of one per month. I probably won't be quilting them during the retreat. I can't carry my good machine for quilting up and down the stairs at home. My feather weight and I will be doing some work on other projects. Then when I return home, I can settle in to quilting and then binding! Hoping for two in June, July and August. We will see https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

So...May has been busier than April was! On May 3 I left for our "International Ride". I rode 1706 miles in 7 days without ever leaving Texas. We rode to towns in Texas that have the same names as international cities & countries. We rode to Turkey, Canadian (in the Panhandle, north of I-40), Scotland, Dublin, Italy, New York, Athens, Palestine, & Paris. It was a great week of steady riding, with several days over 300 miles. I'm lack just over 3000 miles getting my 100,000 mile patch from Harley-Davidson! I signed up for the mileage group in 2008, so it's taken me a while. Then my grandson graduated with his Associate's Degree on May 15 & from high school on May 24. Seems backward to me, but... So all this explains my extended absence from the board. I have gone back & counted 8 UFOs for April, and 5 for May. I apologize for falling down on my self-appointed task of keeping count of the group UFO completions.
On May 22, K & I made the back for my Solstice fabric quilt & got it sandwiched. We got to quilt it yesterday & finished it today! Tomorrow we will trim & bind it. I'll have it on my bed in time for the summer Solstice! I'm very excited to have it so close to completion. So, I'll have a UFO for June. |
Well done, Conchalea. Solstice by solstice is a terrific accomplishment. Please post a photo when you get a moment.I would love to see your finish and I bet others will too! I have no finishes for May but should have a couple for June.
|
No finishes for May either.
|
No more progress in May on UFO's for me. I'm working on the BOOM block exchange! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

One for May!

I was able to finish stitching down the binding last night at 9:30, it was in the wash this morning and its dry so was able to take a picture this afternoon. After it came out of the drier I noticed that there was a spot on the yellow that I think came from the singer 127 that I quilted it on. I will treat it and give it another wash. I think this is my second oldest at 8 1/2 years in the waiting. On to the next UFO!

Congratulations on your excellent finish Dedemac!

Was this one of the Mystery Train patterns by PaintmeJudy here on the board? It looks familiar. It also looks like one of Pat Sloan's patterns. Just curious.
|
Conchalea: Wow to number of miles driven.
Dedemac: Congratulations on your wonderful finish! |

Dedemac, that is a great finish, which I counted for May.

I remember that quilt a long - mine had coral stars with purple binding. I gave it to my sister - she must have liked it - it went to the hospital with her and then into her casket. Sad, but I'm glad the quilt brightened her days a little. I like yours.

I too miss the lovely train rides we used to do.
Well I didn’t get my UFOs done last month. I got side tracked quilting 5 baby tops for a friend and working on current projects. I did get 2 slow fun current projects completed. California from the Laundry Basket quilt and Pat Sloan’s Jelly roll QAL mystery from last year for Christmas in July. I change up step #4 block and the borders. I Used ideas I saw on face book and fabric I had to finish to my liking. Later today I need to give them to be displayed at a quilt show. I’ll show pics after the show. It’s the Kansas City Regional Quilt show, in Overland Park Convention center in KS. June 17, 18 & 19. my goals for UFOs this month. Quilt a blue and wine batik top, ( next top to be quilted). Then quilt a raggedy Ann top and pat Sloan’s traffic jam top. So I guess I’m going for 3 finishes this month. Well, have fun everyone. My weather is perfect for me. 80’s, light wind and sunny. |
I miss the trains also. I only did a few of them but I followed along on others.
happylab: Congratulations on getting your quilts into the quilt show. I look forward to seeing them later. This week our high temps are supposed to stay in the low to middle 90’s. Yuck! We may have met our average 90 degree days of weather for the summer by Thursday. It will be good weather to stay in my lower level and sew, hopefully, on one of my UFO’s. I have a quilt top I want to finish first. |
Making progress. I layered 5 of the 6 quilts I took to my retreat! Ran out of spray baste. (Rats!) Two got quilted today, but those are not really UFOs. They are only ones who we hanging about and not being finished because I don't have a place to lay them out for sandwiching. Goal for June is to quilt and bind two UFOs by the end of the month. Fingers crossed. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

WMUTeach: That was great progress at your quilting retreat, Plus a bonus that you got 2 projects quilted.
|
Wmuteach- five quilts basted and two of them quilted is a major accomplishment- well done!
|
DeDeMac- Marvelous finish!
WMUTeach-Ditto what Rob said. Great progress getting them basted/finished. I have been on vacation for the last two and a half weeks, so I haven't been on the board. I was able to eek out two finishes for the end of May, yay! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png One the "Big Boy Quilt" for my cousin's middle son and the "I Can't Believe It's the Same Block" BOM from two years ago. The B-B-Q counts twice because except for the shark backing, it was all from stash https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png . Keep up the great work. |
I managed to get the next quilt on the stack loaded up and started quilting it today, and I realized I only had January and February blocks finished for the National Quilting Museum BOM, so I started on March. I’m about 1/2 way done with the block- I guess until I catch up those late blocks are sort of ufos. Vacation seems to have done me some good, I’m feeling better organized- settling into my work schedule in a way that also provides me time to sew too. I had been spread a bit thin for a few months. Overwhelmed by how much seemed to be stacking up around me. I’ve reminded myself that I can accomplish a lot in 15-20 minutes and it’s ok. My new ( again- 3rd new schedule) at work that started as soon as I got back from vacation - yesterday— I think is going to help me get back into the swing of accomplishing my projects and enjoying it all again. My granddaughter reminded me today that the past 3 years in my world ( and of course the past 15 months that affected all of us) has built up a lot of stress. In the past 5 weeks we have also had to deal with 4 deaths- it is time for me to find my happy place again.
whew- sorry I went so far off topic—- |

Rff1010, this is a safe place to vent, rant with respect of course, and to whine when needed. We all need the ear of friends who understand and we do understand, yes, we do!
|
All five of my UFOs done! One is already in use and has been laundered twice. Now to start on some new projects! Up up and away!
|
Great to hear of everyone's UFO finishes. I haven't touched mine in a while and probably won't until late summer...life gets in the way!
|
I know what you mean Oksewglad. But I'm holding y nose to finish one (seriously- it needs one border before the long arm lady). I decided that it's not fair to start another queen-size while one was sitting....so forcing myself.

Flimsy for a queen size Habitat for Humanity donation.
The sashing doesn't match as well as I would like but I want to start another queen sized Lone Star* and I decided I can't have TWO queens in progress so I held my nose and finished.....the border. Seriously. That's all I needed to do. My long arm lady will also does binding so...yes that's why I love her. Drop off and comes back DONE. ------- *I've never done one before but I need to make something for my bed because the wedding quilt is starting to shred after 18 years of constant use. |
Rff1010, that is very beautiful, especially with the light shining down on it.
|
Very pretty Rf1010.
- I finally have my UFO top and bottom on my quilting machine. Later today I plan to cut double binding and finish setting up this top. It’s 90” by 100”. I won the top during a LQS anniversary sale. The store would have as many quilts or quilt tops to Match how many years they were in business. The last year she did this I won one. Yea. It’s been 5-7 years since she closed business. I really like her store. That’s the time I did most of my buying and started my UFOs. - Happy quilting/sewing everyone. |

I just spend about 15 minutes searching the Sleep In Heavenly Peace website and found there is a group about 20 minutes from my home. They must be a very quiet organization. I have never heard of them. Thanks for the cue, QuiltBaer.
