I got three more flimsies done last week. A couple of cascading diagonals and one Around-the World. Yay, for me! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png These three also count as fabric moratorium--100% from stash--Double Yay!
The lump under my ATW is my Inspector (my avatar) https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/tongue.png He wouldn't move. Told you I had to work on something easy! |
Those are some bright and rich color combos, Motorcyclemad. Beautiful!
Petthefabric, how exciting -- both the move and clearing out 25 UFOs! |

At least 25 UFO's left my house today..
We're moving across the country; California to Florida. Today the comfort quilt leader took over 30 quilts in different levels of finished; needs label, needs binding, needs quilting, needs piecing. We averaged 6 yd/quilt so over 180 yds. She's doing some counting on them so I'll have a better idea. There are emply spots in the room now. Next week we're going to do a work day to make pillow case kits. If someone wants a kit for them personally she said she'd tell them how much it'd cost at $12/yd fabric. May the downsizing continue. Almost wish I was there to see the 25 UFOs leaving... I did say "ALMOST" https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png ! Congrats. |
A few friends are coming shopping on Friday. Need to get my "want to keep" packed.
|
Another good way to clear some of the stash! I hope they a expansive shoppers! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

Sold some things. I think a great run. We're planning another last Sat of Sept. Then we'll hang quilts and advertise more.

Sweatshirt Jacket UFO
Havent been on the board for quite some time… thought i would share my 10++++ year old UFO finally finished! Never thought i would see the day. A quilter i might be, but as a seamstress, i am clueless - which is a big part of the reason i kept kicking this thing around so long!
Well, am having trouble uploading photos tonight. Will try again tomorrow if anybody is interested. |
April M - always interested in seeing others' success stories! I look forward to seeing your pictures. :-)
|
Not a finish, yet. But I got a UFO quilted yesterday. Need to cut and add the binding. Maybe later this week? Fingers crossed. There is one more that is sandwiched. The top has been waiting since the beginning of the year. Baby steps, I guess. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png
|
Hopefully this works and isnt too big!
nope that didnt work either - lol! |

Learning curve for posting photos… apparently works better if i email the photo to myself choosing the smaller file size - then save the file again and upload! I am not sure that the photo will be upright when its posted though (any pointers on that?). So here it is!
|
Great finish- congratulations on getting it done! And Welcome to the UFO thread.

April- that's a beautiful jacket! Congratulations on the finish!
Sadly I just added another to my ufo pile tonight. Making a total of 4 hanging nicely with the backing. Time to get some batting and prioritize. |
Hello UFO'ers, I thought I'd better say a little something, since I haven't had much input since moving to Georgia. I've been trying to adjust and life has thrown a curve or two at me. I've evaded the covid, thank heaven and I've been vaccinated. But, did go through a tragic family lose. My 30 year old grandson in late May.
So, I'm just getting back to sewing and piecing. I did do a new project in March and my Kansas long arm Cousin brought back to me in June when she came for a visit. I just finish a top of a pattern that I like from the Spring and Summer issue of the Quilt Sampler. Now, I am pulling out my three or four year UFO, image the older one is finished pieced just needing a back. The Arkansas Crossroad is still incomplete, that the one that needs to be worked. That's the one that will get worked at. If I'm going to get at it, I better start soon Take care everyone and stay safe--cherryb |
Cherrybsixty, good to hear from you again. Life can give us hills and valleys. Glad your back to quilting and looking at those UFOs after a move, a visit, and the passing of a grandson. I have many a number of Arkansas Crossroads and thinking about another, just to get some squares out of my stash. Keep pushing up the hill and we will be looking for a photo of a finish from you this fall maybe? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png (Your time, your pace.)

Thank you WMUT and Rff1010 for your kind thoughts and words of encouragement. I handed all of my grieving over to the Creator. The piecing is a peace of mind for me. But, when I master the pix transferal I will be doing great. Every time I understand the process either the Board changes or I upgrade to another phone. This two I shall learn how to operate.
Take care all and stay safe--cherryb |
I pulled out my Arkansas Crossroads today. I have a new granddaughter who is two years old, so I need a quilt quickly. My blocks are very scrappy and not particularly young or feminine, but I think I can lighten it up with borders.
Sometimes it's nice to have UFOs. |
Irishrose I do believe you are right about having something that you can build off of and make it work for a gift. I originally was going to gift my Arkansas Crossroad to my last neighbor, but until I finish it the ball is still in the court. Happy sewing with hers
Blessings and stay safe everyone--cherryb |
Irishrose2, of course it is traditional to use soft pastels for girls but a quilt made by Grandma, Grammie or
Mema all mean the same thing, she loves me. You are right, you can add some little girl silliness and fun so easily with borders. And you will be clearing out some of those UFO blocks. A very wise grandma. |
Conchalea, are you ok, I have been missing you on the Board? I know that I was quite for awhile and really should not ask that question, But, I've been missing your pleasant updates, hoping you are healthy and doing other things
Blessings to everyone and stay safe--cherryb |

I hope everyone had a great, fun and safe holiday week. I was able to get four more flimsies done and submitted for the longarmer--one at least 2yo the others just over a year. Also, except for the black used for the sashing in the two, all was from stash! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png There are two diagonals and two scrappy around the worlds.

Motorcyclemad: Very pretty!

Very good job Motorcyclemad, continue on
stay safe everyone--cherryb |

I have been lurking for the last many, many months. I like all of the quilts pictured here. You all give great inspiration.
Here are 2 UFO finishes for August. The 1st pic is a quilt my niece and I went to Missouri Star Quilt Company (on their birthday bash, 2 years ago), and bought the pattern and backing minky fabric. I was surprised how easy the minke quilted and was to bind. The second pic is a quilt I won during a drawing from an anniversary celebration of a LQS over 12 years ago. I used double backing on this quilt. My brother stated he wanted a warm and washable quilt. It’s a queen size, and weights over 16 pounds. |
I plan to quilt 2-3 smaller tops this month. First I need to download the upgrade for my quilting machine. Then it’s happy quilting time.
I have a question. How many of you used your long arms to bind your quilts. Then how do you do this. |

OK, here is my September finish. It was started last fall, top finished in the early spring and binding finished yesterday, September 28. Glad it is off the to do list. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png. It will go to Project Linus for one of their older children who need a warm hug and comfort. The pattern is from Wedding Dress Blue and one that has been used at least 4 times. A good way to eat up those little 2.5 squares. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I love the scrappy of it! I will need to try this one for sure! Great Job. |
That is gorgeous, WMUTeach…
|
Congratulations to the three ladies ( Motorcyclemad, Happylab and WMUTeach) on your five finishes of your gorgeous lastest finishes.
Trying to work on some UFO of my own stay safe--cherryb |
Thanks for the comments, it is fun and easy to make. Hope to finish one more top tomorrow so it does not become a UFO! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png
Then quilt one that has been layered so long I can't remember what the top looks like. . It is lightly folded with the backing showing so can't see the top. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png Been sitting on the "to do" pile since early April. Tee-Hee-Hee! |
Gave 2 bags quilts and tops to charity yesterday. Along with bunch rolls of stabilizer, bag stiffener and assorted other q goodies.

Congratulations, on your good work Pet and the rest of you too. I am thinking this week-end will be a sew the UFO week-end! Yeah! |
VQW going on. More purging planned. Down to less than 10 UFO's. I promise on pinky honor to finish before starting another.

Accountability helps me stay on track and not get distracted. Round robbins fall into that catagory.

Finally finished! 99x99 batik quilt. Rejected by the long arm lady, I pillowcased it and TIED the beast. It will be a donation for Habitat for Humanity
Remainder of donation quilts will be for Project Linus. Why? Smaller and the organizer is nicer. Story time- I felt strongly that I had so much that I needed to give back. I've always like Habitat as an organization and we have a strong chapter here that REHABS houses not build new. So I decided that would be my donation. Did a little online research - while this chapter hasn't done it - presenting quilts to new homeowner is not uncommon nation. So make the quilt. Contact donation coordinator. "Oh sure fine. Normally we don't but if you really want we will make an exception. We'd rather work with a guild than an individual because we want x number of quilts per year.". I don't expect falling down gratitude but I really don't feel appreciated either. But at this point I'm too stubborn to back out and who else would want something this huge. Anyway- that's why I won't donate quilts to Habitat in the future - but yes I will to Project Linus. PS. Started to quilt next top. Decided to go for straight line because it's fast and the tops need to get *finished* |
I'm sad they didn't have more enthusiasm.

It always feels better dealing with someone who is happy to see you coming. Keep up the great work and don't let this one incident get to you. |

I was able to get 5 more flimsies done in the last three weeks and I was able to get pictures. YAY! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png
All of them range from around 14-18 months in the "To-Be-Continued" pile, so yeah. Except for the sashing, all of the squares are from stash, so these also count as moratorium finishes too--(at least 75%) https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png . Now back to the Saturday Sampler that is 2-weeks from being a year old. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/redface.png |
