I'm having some remodeling done in the house, but I have managed to finish 2 tops. One was a Civil War quilt that had a large
center medallion. I just used the pieced blocks to make the quilt. The other quilt was much larger, about 100 inches square. I
deconstructed it to a size that will be usuable for the kids charity quilts. I will quilt these after
all the construction equipment has been removed from my quilt room.

Dedemac 02-13-2021 11:24 AM

Quiltbaer - Love both but the blue one is my favorite! Great work everyone, trying to decide to sew or not today. The VQW is on and I do have the pieces cut for the back of a UFO but DH is home and in a mood to play his guitar and I just love to listen to him play. So hand work may be in order today if the fingers cooperate, and it's too cold to go out -1 right now and overnight low of -25 to -30? I hope not!

Finished the binding on this last night.

joe'smom 02-13-2021 11:25 AM

QuiltBaer, those are beautiful! The Civil War sampler in particular pushes all of my quilters buttons.

retiredteacher09 02-13-2021 04:32 PM

QuiltBaer: I like both of those tops. That was creative to make the second quilt into smaller quilts.

Dedemac: ❤️ that your husband wanted to play his guitar today. -5 already and let’s hope it doesn’t get into the -20s tonight or tomorrow night. Wind chill advisory though . Brr! I’ve been a Minnesotan all of my life and lived in central MN growing up but still don’t care for the cold.

Mona G: Very nice finish! Congratulations.

Vasilisa 02-14-2021 02:03 AM

Quiltbaer and MonaG - hats off for your finishes!

rryder 02-14-2021 03:06 AM

Quiltbaer- they’re both beautiful congratulations on your finishes!

Mona G- cool strip quilt, congratulations on getting it finished!

Send a PM to Conchalea so she can add them to the Feb. UFO finish count.

I am so excited. I ran out of thread for another quilt yesterday afternoon so I grabbed a sandwiched but unquilted UFO and I have it quilted and about 1/4 of the binding on. I see a UFO finish for February! That will make just a little more room in my closiet and I can start thinking about a March UFO. Photo when completely finished. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Finished a ufo that’s been ( laying around) for at least 5 years- probably closer to 7.
and another Ufo I decided just to pass on- donate somewhere- I’m never going to finish it so there is no point keeping it laying around.so... 2 done. They were both Round Robins that the sewing group I used to go to did, years ago.
here’s the one I did finish

oksewglad 02-14-2021 05:58 PM

I so enjoy seeing applique...something I don't do very often. nicely down ckcowl!

retiredteacher09 02-14-2021 06:58 PM

WMUTeach: Way to go! You took a possible frustrating situation and turned it into a win-win.

ckcowl: Awesome finish and congratulations on getting 2 UFOs off of your list.

Several times today, I was going to pull out my tea towel UFO and got sidetracked. 🤷‍♀️

Vasilisa 02-14-2021 10:54 PM

Ckcowl, what a pretty quilt and congratulations on getting the 5+ year old burden off your shoulders.

QuiltBaer 02-15-2021 06:31 AM

Mona G, love your string quilt. I just love those. And ckcowl, congrats on your finish. That's a really nice quilt.

A February finish! "Field of Stars" size 78x 88. That's my queen bed it's laid out on. (Covers but almost no drop)

Pattern is Missouri Star 'Lemon" blocks - which the rest of us know as LeMoyne.

98% stash. I had to buy a little white - white for the inner border - my Kona Snow had a yellow tinge that didn't look good. Used scraps, random FQ... basically anything I had floating around. While fabric is repeated - there are no 2 combinations repeated. (That's the kind of detail y'all might appreciate - even if the recipient might not)

Mitered corners continue to give me trouble even if I like the results. I spent 45 min last night on one corner that surprised me by being too short AFTER it was mostly sewn on.

Why did it UFO? I started this last year and quite honestly I got tired of squaring up blocks. The HSTs are all oversized and need to be trimmed to 3". I *hate* trimming.

Why did I pick it back up again - the recipient is coming from Florida to visit. This way I can show it to her before dropping at the long armer. It still needs a label and black binding but the big work is done.

oksewglad 02-15-2021 08:24 AM

Well done Rff1010! Yes trimming every HST is tedious; glad you persevered as it is such a cheery quilt! BTW mitred corners look great.

Dedemac 02-15-2021 12:15 PM

Awesome progress everyone, It's probably close to zero out and the sun looks inviting but I'm still not going out there, phone said -19 at 6AM. I have been working on the back for this months UFO and actually seeing some progress. I have all the pieces cut and just have to remember what order they need to be pieced in, so far only 1 seam had to be frog stitched.

Half way thru February how many can we knock out?

Ckcowl- I think that's a really lovely treatment for your applique. The pieced and solid borders around it make for a really nice medallion quilt.

retiredteacher09 02-15-2021 05:18 PM

Rff1010: Very pretty quilt top and your mitering looks great! The recipient will love it!

I pulled out my tea towel UFO today. I hope to work on it later this week.

Teen 02-15-2021 08:59 PM

Quiltbear....amazing quilts. Just beautiful!

Mona...love your strip quilt. Looks like a lot of work...I’ve never made a strip quilt but I keep saving strips for it...

WMUteach....great use of your time. Looking forward to seeing your finish..

rff....Lemoyne Star is my fav star block... yours looks fantastic! Yes, I steal from projects all the time. There is enough fabric in this world to compensate for the stolen yardage...lol....besides, I sometimes end up redesigning or using another pattern. That’s what makes this craft so much fun and creative....

ckcowl.....your round robin is so cute! Great finish!

My jelly roll quilt is ready for LA’er...found backing in stash and had a miscut batting that just needed a bit of squaring up... was the perfect size. LA’er said she is working on my two quilts this week...so, I drop this one off when I pick up the other two. yah!!

happylab 02-15-2021 09:06 PM

I haven’t finished any UFOs lately. I’ve been busy completing 2 smaller projects from my scrappy stash.

I enjoy seeing all of the finished projects. Keep up the great work everyone.

in a few days I will get back to my ufo quilting. The power grip people wants our area to conserve energy and not run dishwashers or washing machine for the next few days. At least until the cold snap move out of our area. We are expecting -19F for low tonight. It’s currently -3F. We are also expecting more snow on Wednesday. So I guess I will read or watch tv. Straighten up my sewing room and house & entertain my pets.

stay warm and be safe everyone.

This quilt hasn't been sitting long, it did sit in the UFO stack so I'm claiming it as a UFO finish. The front is from stash. The back and binding was purchased. OOPs, still have to do the binding-tomorrow. I'll post pictures now though.

Wow....so pretty, petthefabric... beautiful finish...

joe'smom 02-16-2021 10:32 AM

petthefabric, that is lovely. Thank you for the close-up of the quilting -- what a beautiful design.

rryder 02-16-2021 10:42 AM

Ckcowl- glad you decided to finish that one- it's a beauty. Congratulations!

Rff1010- nice finish!

way to go petthefabric!

so that’s 4 more to add to Feb. finish! I’m trying to get mine done, but it’s taking longer than I thought to do the inktense coloring and then it needs some more quilting and also some Lumiere painting so a March finish is more likely.

My February UFO Finish

1 Attachment(s)
Ta-Da! My February UFO is finished!.... Well all except the label, but I don't know who is going to get it or if it will be a donation to Project Linus. All materials from my stash from top to backing and the batting in between! It feels so good to have a finish. This working thing is really cutting into my quilting time! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png Off to add this to the Fabric Moratorium Thread.

oksewglad 02-16-2021 03:41 PM

Pretty backing ptf! Thanks for sharing the quilting from that side.

WMUTeach...the off center placement of HST's is spot on! And I hear it all came from stash as well; WTG

retiredteacher09 02-16-2021 04:46 PM

petthefabric: Great pattern to show off large prints. Congratulations on the finish!

WMUTeach: Wahoo on the wonderful finish!

Teen 02-16-2021 09:45 PM

WMUTeach....that looks great! Beautiful finish! I love this quilt!!

Rob...I have no idea what inktense is but, like always, your art projects are always so creative...can’t wait to see it!

Vasilisa 02-17-2021 01:20 AM

PettheFabric and WMUTeach - congratulations!

I am happy to report one February finish: a set of seat covers. Here is a link to the picture: Seat Covers - (Anti-) Cat Protection - Quiltingboard Forums

Another UFO finish
(Audience is confused - didn't you just finish something?)

Yeah....this just needed binding ...2 years of waiting for binding. This is actually my 2nd quilt. Like ever. It was the first one I tried to quilt myself. So...many...pinches....I did a bad job basting and I think that's why. I was embarrassed.

But I'm trying to be kind to myself. Yes - I made a mistake. But I can make beautiful things BECAUSE I made mistakes ...and learned from them.

I'm not sure what the plan is for this. It's a nice size 56 x 72. I'm on the sofa enjoying some TV and it's very cozy.

oksewglad 02-17-2021 07:50 PM

Rff1010 lovely finish! and yes be kind...it's all a learning experience!

You've got it. That is the attitude we need. Mistakes are lessons learned that can be applied to future projects! Keep going.

What became my favorite quilt is the one I had to pick out because of tucks on the back because I was not careful with sandwiching. Thought I knew more than I did and was too self assured to ask for help! So I spent lots of time picking out all of the quilting. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/eek.png Lessons learned.

rryder 02-18-2021 05:57 AM

Wow! Lots of finishes! Rf1010, Petthefabric, Vasilisa and WMUTeach congratulations on your finishes.

Pet and Rff - great finishes! I'm getting closer I finished the back for a 2015 UFO

The first picture is the front that most of the blocks from a thread way back in 2013, we were doing a block of the month here.
Second picture is what I came up with for the back, I'm trying to use up scraps of black. I never realized how many different shades of black I had in my stash.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/hunf.png
Planning on sandwiching this afternoon then think will only do some SID quilting. Unless anyone has another suggestion.

Time to get gluing!
