rryder, I'm anxious to see what you are doing with your crumb project, I'd love to get started using my crumbs!

Irishrose2 01-29-2021 10:15 AM

Conchalea, That panel has been calling my name since it was released, but I don't have anyone to make it for, so I have abstained. I will look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Conchalea 01-29-2021 03:20 PM

Irish, I didnt know there was a panel. I bought yardage & a jelly roll. I hope I have enough for a large quilt. I think I got it before I got the pattern.

rryder 01-30-2021 04:43 AM

Patg- right now, I’m just sewing them together, willy nilly, no plan yet. Just improvising as I go. Instead of sewing them together the usual way (right sides together w/ quarter inch seam), this time I’m slightly overlapping them face up and stitching a decorative stitch on the overlap to hold them together (think appliqué). A few years ago I did one where I sewed the pieces together and then cut them into squares and rectangles and used them like blocks in a quilt. I’ll see if I can find photos of that one and post it later today. That one was a little more fiddly than the one I started this week. The new one is meant to be a mindless sewing project for me when I'm tired of working on things that take thought or precision but still want to play with my sewing machines https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png.

Thanks for the information. I have some adding machine paper rolls and a bunch of really small pieces that I want to start sewing on. I should keep it out so I can stitch a bit in between projects. I see you have a Featherweight, I have a couple myself, one is set up in my sewing room and I use it a lot, I was lucky enough to find a FW cabinet a few years ago at a thrift store and refurbished it.

Irishrose2 01-30-2021 09:59 AM

Conchalea, This is the panel from the Solstice line. It is gorgeous in person.

Almost the end of the month and I can tell you know that there will not be a UFO finish for me this month. I am working on hand stitching the binding on a lap quilt that I'm trying to decide was it a UFO or very long WIP? No picture for this one yet.

On the up side I have started getting my sewing mojo back. It's great to read the posts each day and see all the great finishes this year. I did figure out a back for a UFO from 2005 and should have it done next month. It is currently under the left over pieces that I am going to use for the back. It's the green, yellow, black and white photo.

I am also trying to figure out what I want to do for a binding on a baby quilt I just finished. This is the first time I worked with Minky. I have yet to figure out how not to do dense quilting. I think it my be a little overkill but I like it. I am leaning toward putting on a yellow satin binding.

Conchalea 01-30-2021 03:16 PM

Thanks for the photo, Irish. I think I have seen it, & *rats!* tje Etsy shop still has some. Oh well, I don't need it, & I don't want to add more fabric to my collection.
On the other hand, I'm really progressing on the blocks I'm making with the fabric I did buy, over a year ago... So far I have 40 blocks made. Not as great as I thought, because i need 100, not 56. I read the amount for the wrong size quilt. Bummer.

happylab 01-30-2021 06:16 PM

I enjoying seeing all of the finished UFOs.

I didn’t get to my UFOs this month. Tomorrow I will put the blue and wine top on the long arm and start sewing. And the next week will do the lab top. Then January’s ufo projects will be completed.

rryder 01-31-2021 03:31 AM

Dedemac- glad to hear you’re getting your sewing mojo back. Both those quilts are going to be gorgeous!

today I'm going to bind two quilts that are Not UFOs, but once they’re done, I am going to pull out the next UFO that I want to get finished this year. I finally figured out how to handle a design issue I had with it (after letting it sit for several years) and am anxious to work on it again!

Rob

jmoore 01-31-2021 08:05 AM

Dedemac, I especially love your heart quilt. Splendid job!

Rob, sounds like you are making good strides in completing projects. I’m happy you have figured out how to proceed with your UFO.

retiredteacher09 01-31-2021 05:39 PM

Dedemac: Wahoo to getting your sewing mojo back. Very pretty projects.

Rob: I’m glad you figured out your design issue.

I haven’t decided which UFO I will do in February. I think it may be the tea towel or pillow covering.

Cattitude 01-31-2021 05:57 PM

I will be letting the team down this month. I managed to get two projects quilted but not bound. I did complete the binding on another project.....unfortunately the quilting isn’t finished. I need more thread and haven’t ventured out to get more. The really bad news is that despite vowing not to add to my ‘to be quilted pile’ I added 4 tops.

Some nice finishes posted so far this month, hoping to use this as inspiration for February!

petthefabric 01-31-2021 08:11 PM

I did 5 in January. Now there's one that needs binding and 1 on the LA.

Vasilisa 02-02-2021 08:23 AM

And here are the pics of my January UFO finish that was counted as #9 in this thread for last month.

rryder 02-02-2021 11:08 AM

Congratulations on getting it finished, Vasilisa!

Conchalea 02-02-2021 06:40 PM

If I managed to count all the UFOs for January, here are the contributors: 1 by oksewglad, 2 by Conchalea & friend, K, 1 by rryder, 5 by ckcowl, 1 by retiredteacher09, 1 by Vasilisa, 1 by WMUTeach, 2 by Patg, & 5 by petthefabric. This gives us 19 for the first month of 2021!

Congratulations to all finishers, and here is a cheer for everyone hard at work on their UFOs.

Please let me know if I missed anyone's completions.

retiredteacher09 02-02-2021 07:32 PM

Congratulations, petthefabric and Vasilisa, on your finishes.

Nice totals!

WMUTeach 02-03-2021 05:30 PM

Whoo-Hoo! Love the total for this month. Let's keep it up! Less in our UFO pile and more quilts keeping other folks warm and snuggly.

Teen 02-03-2021 05:57 PM

Congrats on finishes, people! Way to go!

I posted a picture of my last quilt (WIP) on fabric thread so still holding with zero UFO’s...yah! And, I mailed off the QOV I made for my uncle after labeling it and registering it. He should receive it on Saturday.

oksewglad 02-04-2021 08:13 AM

FYI I finally was able to post pictures of my December UFO finishes in the 2020 thread. I've been having issues transferring from my phone to my computer..think I have that solved now!

I have 2 tops ready to go to the LAQ as of today, I also have two tops at the LAQ right now, should be getting them back in the next week or two.
I have 2 T shirt quilts I will be working on this year for friends
I have the fabric for a two color quilt that I've been planning to start for several years now, this is the year to complete this one ( blue and white)
I have several block swaps from the last several years (boomarang swap) that I plan to get finished this year.
I also hope to do 1 top a month for church for donating to overseas and the local homeless.

Got my January and February donation tops done.

I also finished this one a couple of weeks ago but didn't post a photo yet.

oksewglad 02-04-2021 02:21 PM

Good use of all those odds and ends, Mona G!

I'm chuckling to myself. I was just looking at the pattern for your denim quilt. It looks like an easy pattern and maybe not as heavy as some denim quilts because of the big pieces. Am I right?

still pretty heavy.

retiredteacher09 02-04-2021 05:05 PM

oksewglad: Congratulations on learning to post the pictures. Awesome quilts! It’s extra special that he has 2 quilts made by his sisters.

Mona G.: I love your scrappies!

rryder 02-05-2021 04:12 AM

Oksew- what connie said!

Mona G- welcome to the UFO challenge, love the scrappies,

Conchalea 02-05-2021 04:26 AM

Mona G, are those full completions? If so I'll add them to our count. If, like me, you have the top finished but still need to quilt them, I'll hold off on adding them. My RWB is finished, but not quilted yet so I haven't counted it.
It's nice to see the use of stash in scrappy tops.

PiedPiper 02-05-2021 06:31 AM

Oh my, you all are so productive! Congratulations on all the beautiful finishes.

Well, it's February and I still haven't finished any UFOs. I waited for a couple of weeks to have some flannel delivered for backing a top, and then it wasn't enough! Argh!!! (Measure twice...) So now I'm waiting for an opportunity to get to my LQS.

In the meantime I started and finished two "bag bags" just because I had to sew something! Plus we needed them (haha) and they used up some scraps. But they don't count as UFOs!

In my defense, I am a homeschooling mom of two teens...https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

Mona....great finishes...well done...

Conchalea....love RWB so looking forward to seeing this quilt..

cherrybsixty 02-07-2021 04:53 AM

Good morning everyone, thought that drop-in and visit for a while, I'm not really working on a UFO as of now, still making mask. But, the things that I am seeing finishing up around here are looking great. I'm not going to take up too much time just stopped in to say hello and I miss you all, that mask making keeps me grounded. Now stay safe and keep the finish UFO coming

cherryb

Rff1010 02-07-2021 11:12 AM

Don't underestimate the value of your mask work. Speaking only for myself...I'm so very very tired of needing them. A fresh design really perks me up.

Can't wait for the day when we can consign to the history books and only trot them out to show the grands...."oh yes, we wore these every day..."

Conchalea 02-07-2021 04:14 PM

Welcome back, Cherry. I also make a few masks in between quilt projects. Like Rff1010 I like a new design & new fabric.
I've spent the last few days piecing a UFO, Star of the Show with the Stonehenge Solstice fabric. I love the colors. K admired the panel I showed her online, so I got it for her birthday, which was yesterday! We had a shrimp boil at her house with a few of her friends. We ate outside, dogs came with families & ran around a lot, & we were able to distance from each other as we visited & ate. It was great fun.

froggyinNewMexco 02-07-2021 05:50 PM

Took five to the LA after staying up until after midnight one night to make backs. Then found a panel a quilting buddy gave me and I've made the back for it, but can't decide quite what to do with it! It's too small for a long armer and not small enough for me to do.

retiredteacher09 02-08-2021 07:58 PM

Wow froggyinnewmexco. That’s awesome progress.

cherrybsixty 02-09-2021 02:01 PM

Good evening, 'froggyin' that's getting those UFO's clear out, congratulations, that is motivation. You go girl!!!

Happy sewing everyone

Vasilisa 02-10-2021 09:34 AM

I have done some stash organizing and I have found a piece with which I had promised to make something. So one more thing got added to my UFO list. I hope to get something done soon, however.

Cherryb - nice to have you back. Conchalea - I envy the shrimp event!

cherrybsixty 02-10-2021 08:52 PM

Good evening, Thanks everyone for welcoming me back, I'm still here in Georgia and I'm just trying to adjust to this new way of life for me. When you go from a 'empty-nester,' to share living you have to adjust. I had to purchase a new '5G' Note 20 Samsung phone and I'm still learning what it all does, I was just getting computable with the 'Note 8' and then had to change again. But, I made those 80 mask last fall and took them back to Kansas in December when I went for a brief stay. So, now I just make them for the DD and her special friend. She brings me different fabric to make them for them. I started a Red lap throw for the young man but I'm not saying it's his until I find what I want to do the border with

Have a good evening and happy sewing everyone
