Ckcowl, you certainly are on a roll and keeping yourself busy. Great finishes...I’m glad to hear you have recovered well after such a long journey. I wish you all the best in this new year and with your quilting goals.

joe'smom 01-18-2021 09:14 AM

ckcowl, I'm so glad to hear that you are getting back to normal. Beautiful finishes!

dungeonquilter 01-18-2021 10:37 AM

I plan to finish UFO's in 2021, but can only access one right now. We are planning on selling the house, and most of my stash is packed up. ;( Can't wait to unpack it all.
My current UFO is Peacock Window - a BOM from a few years ago.

Good luck with the move and your UFO goals. I remember what it was like to have your stash packed up to move. It’s good you kept one out to work on through the process. Unpacking was like Christmas!,

Welcome, dungeonquilter! We look forward to your finished UFOs whenever they happen.

I finished the UFO top found in a donation. I included a few pictures from start to finish. It will be added to my church quilter’s pile.

The first picture shows the copies of typewritten and handwritten directions along with the numbered fabric swatches. The title says 6 Hour Quilt, Trip Around World. ( no ‘the’).

The second picture shows the assembled 4” squares. I put matching strips together and labeled number. Most of these seams were 1/4” but some needed to be resewn. Some other squares in the center were sewn with 2 different sizes together and 1/2” seam allowance, coarse thread, and almost a basting stitch. 🤷‍♀️ I took those apart and used the 4” squares for the quilt top.

The third picture has the various strips in the step before I started to assemble in a jumbled up way. Good thing I had the pattern to figure it out.

The last picture is of the finished quilt. 70” by 80”. The borders came from my stash.

I’m happy I could honor the unknown quilter by finishing the top. A few puckers here and there but seams matched up better than I could hope.

I like it, Retired! Lots of UFOs being completed here. It's inspiring.

oksewglad 01-18-2021 07:03 PM

Now that's a labor of love to basically disassemble a quilt and start all over...And it looks great!

Welcome dungeonquilter! Looking forward to see your finishes!

Teen 01-18-2021 07:28 PM

Way cool, retiredteach! A legacy lives on. I did something similar when I picked up an unfinished BOM from an estate sale from Hancock in the 80’s... I could tell she got frustrated with it and quit... I finished it for her and donated it. That was such a good feeling since I felt awful and sad pilfering her quilting supplies...

petthefabric 01-18-2021 10:17 PM

Finished quilting a UFO. Now to trim and bind. Got another out to quilt: oops, no back.

rryder 01-19-2021 08:02 AM

Nice finish, Connie!

Petthefabric, congratualtions on finishing the quilting. Post a pic when you get it trimmed and bound!

I started on the UFO that I want to get finished for Feb. It needs a lot of work, but at least after several years of marinating in its box, I can see how to go about getting it finished. Yay! Now back to work on my two WIPs that I am trying to prevent becoming UFOs...

Retired Teacher, great work and what a nice quilt in return!

I am happy to announce my first finished UFO for 2021. It is a Double Irish Chain that has given me unexpected trouble at almost every stage of making it, but I finally managed to complete the thing. I will post the pics in the Picture forum today (or tomorrow).

I just posted this photo in the Fabric Moratorium thread but wanted to share it with you folks too. This quilt was started last year and not finished until yesterday, 1-19-2021. All from stash. I am so proud of my self finding a back and not having to shop for one. There will be another version in this pattern coming later this winter. I ran this pattern as an exchange block with some of my quilting group all in blue scraps from stash. So, Ups and Downs of 2020 will have a blue friend soon.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

oksewglad 01-20-2021 05:02 PM

Two new (old?) finishes...keep them coming folks!

retiredteacher09 01-20-2021 06:10 PM

Thanks for the compliments. Now I need to decide which one I will work on in February.

Vasilisa: Congratulations on your finish. Will you link a picture here?

WMUTeach: I love that pattern and your quilting. Congratulations on a finish.

rryder 01-21-2021 05:37 AM

Congratulations on your finish Vasilisa!

WMUteach-cool finish and love the idea of doing a series of these!

Rob

Conchalea 01-21-2021 05:47 AM

Vasilisa & WMUTeach, your finishes are #10 & 11 for the month! We have contributions from 7 participants so far! This is great & we have 10 more days in January. Let's all keep working to add to our total!
Congratulations for reducing our collective UFOs in 2021.

Teen 01-21-2021 07:45 PM

Congrats on the finishes, Vasilisa and WMUTeach! WMUTeach...that s a great strip stash buster pattern. I was just messing around with all my strips to make some sense out of them for a project.

I now have 3 quilts at the LA’er... Get’r’done!!!

Conchalea 01-21-2021 07:50 PM

K & I finished another UFO from her daughter today. K had an innovative idea about the quilting. There are red stars in the quilt with other large white areas. K found the heat fading pens & we drew stars in the big white areas. Then K used a FMQ foot & a buttonhole stitch to quilt along the lines with red thread. It looks great & she had a wonderful time doing it. I cut white strips for binding & she sewed it all on. I'll load a picture tomorrow from my computer.

Patg 01-24-2021 04:10 AM

I just finished up 2 UFO's this month, one is a Dresden plate I put together last summer and an English paper pieced small quilt named Posies.
I have a roomful of other UFO's. A Friendship Dahlia quilt I just started quilting this week, I put together the blocks from my cousin's Aunt, blocks from my Grandma that I can't decide how to set together, a small quilt top of large hexagons that I hand pieced last fall. I want to make a fan quilt from wedges already cut out. Oh, and I have some hexagon flowers that I want to put together (english paper pieced) and there's always the 3 large hatboxes full of vintage blocks from estate sales to work on.

jmoore 01-24-2021 05:10 AM

Love the motivation and determination in this new year...
Nice finish Connie and such perseverance in finishing your quilt.
Vasilisa, congratulations on your finish and WMUTeach, really like your scrap quilt...your quilting looks fabulous.I’m sure it will be just as nice in blue.
Teen, sounds like you are working diligently to keep from having any UFOs...I admire how much quilting you get accomplished.
Keep up the good work Conchalea and Patg...we would love to see photos of your projects.

retiredteacher09 01-24-2021 06:12 PM

Congratulations Conchalea and Patg on your finishes.

PiedPiper 01-25-2021 07:37 AM

Congratulations on all the beautiful finishes! And it's not even February yet! :)

Here is the red quilt from K's daughter, Beth. We had to piece the back because K had only a short piece of the red roses fabric. All was from stash, so it's a stash buster as well as a completed UFO.

This is so pretty! I love red and white!

oksewglad 01-25-2021 04:18 PM

Another lover of red and white quilts...lovely backing, Conchalea.

Conchalea 01-25-2021 06:19 PM

Thank you OK & marybeth. K's daughter wants this quilt back & I think it's one of her most striking tops. K has really taken to quilting & binding, so she did both on this top.

retiredteacher09 01-25-2021 07:44 PM

Lovely quilt. Conchalea!

rryder 01-26-2021 04:11 AM

Congratulations on your finishes Patg! Post pics if you get a chance.

Conchalea- it’s beautiful. I can see why she wants it back! Congratulations on finishing and using up stash!

I love that rose fabric and of course the front is fabulous!

This is my first time posting photos, so here goes. The 2 quilts I completed this month. The Dresden Plate quilt is made from blocks I bought an estate sale, I added the yellow centers and appliqued, then hand quilted. The Posy hexagon quilt is made from vintage scrap fabrics, blue border is reproduction fabric, english paper pieced last summer, finished the hand quilting this month.

oksewglad 01-26-2021 06:47 AM

Patg..these will be family treasures. Lovely

Conchalea 01-26-2021 10:12 AM

Patg those quilts are lovely!

petthefabric 01-26-2021 10:16 AM

Patg; both lovely. Hexigon quilts are always a challenge at the binding because they don't have straight edges. Nice solution.

WMUTeach 01-26-2021 04:29 PM

Patg, I really like the yellow centers on the Dresden plates. A perfect choice. Lovely finishes and inspiring to keep pressing on to more finishes.

retiredteacher09 01-26-2021 08:25 PM

Patg: Thanks so much for posting your awesome finishes. I look forward to seeing more of your finished projects.

Teen 01-27-2021 08:16 PM

Conchalea....love the red/white finish. It’s beautiful. I use to do all the binding for my SIL’s charity quilts so I totally get K’s enjoyment!

Patg...these are both truly beautiful quilts. I admire those who hand quilt. These are the perfect quilts for that.

I picked up one quilt Tuesday from LA’er and binding is ready to go on this week. Also, dropped off two quilts I finished...one is the BH mystery and the other is the King quilt I just finished and had to wait for backing. So, I’m off and running again on my next quilt project. Yah!

Keep up the great work everyone!!

Julienm1 01-28-2021 03:04 AM

~~~Hiding my face~~~~I should have joined this thread a month ago but well...too many reasons to list and they are all hiding in various locations from me. Goal for the next week is to finish the PL top I'm working on now. One row left to assemble and then the last row of 7 blocks to create, assemble and then ready to baste. Backing fabric arriving Sat so that's the next step. Glue baste the 4 tops and then quilt. Not going to do heavy quilting... but more than "just enough."
We have been anticipating a move for quite awhile and DH has packed up lots of my UFOs...yep...out of sight, out of mind. Ok if I don't count those?
rryder 01-28-2021 04:21 AM
Patg- lovely finishes!
Teen- great job keeping those projects from turning into UFOs,
Julienm1- welcome!
I’ve got two new projects to finish up this week (trying to follow Teen’s example and prevent them from becoming UFOs). Then I can get back to work on the UFO that I chose for my next UFO finish. I had a bit of a squirrel moment earlier this week and started a new improvisational piecing project with my crumb scraps and also pulled out the scraps I want to use for the next Debbie brown color block quilt and also pulled out some doodle drawings that I had intended to turn into my next new art quilt project, and also my fabric arrived for my Helen Godden 2018 quilt along, which I was going to start this month, too. That’s 4 new projects plus one UFO to work on in Feb. Oops.
Well let's just call them WIP's on vacation, then!
Conchalea 01-28-2021 02:50 PM
Since I visited my daughters this weekend I'm self-isolating from K to protect her health. I've completed what I can on the RWB back & added borders to the top. This Sunday or Monday I'll go to K's to piece the back. Then we'll sandwich it & I'll bring it home to quilt.
With the RWB on hold I decided to pull out the UFO I cut out last January before I packed my house for the move. I bought Solstice by Stonehenge fabric & the pattern is Star of the Show by Cozy Quilt Designs. I forgot my plans for the blocks & had to read through the pattern & look through my fabric to put it back into my mind. I think I have it straightened out & sewed 8 subunits of the main block. I need 54, so I have a lot to sew. But at least I'm working on it again.
