Just got 5 UFOs back from the long armer and now all that's needed is the binding. Will get to that next week. Does giving a project away to someone who will enjoy it count as a finish?
Was hoping for a finish this month, but I just got the walking foot today when we came back from the cabin. Was a very enjoyable weekend. Saw a neighbor who has been in FL, but came up to WI due to a new grand baby. The baby was born on the 21th of Feb and I brought over the baby quilt and Grandma is going to deliver the quilt tomorrow. I checked out the foot and it works perfectly on my sewing machine. So I should be able to get the Black - Green - Yellow & White quilt done this week. |
As of 8:45 pm Feb 28, 2021, I have a count of 23 UFO completions for the month! Almost 1 per day, which is phenomenal. Keep up the good work, everyone.

Yikes it is now March! I am muttering something about time flying. Now which UFO to tackle this month? So many choices, so little time. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.pnghttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.pnghttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Finish for February

I'm so excited that I finally finished this quilt! Thanks for the motivation!!
|
Stunning PiedPiper...that narrow edge of bright is perfect!
|
Awesome quilt, PiedPiper
|
PiedPiper, that's spectacular! Congratulations on a great finish.
|
Piedpiper....stunning finish! That is really a cool quilt...
I got distracted....need to put the binding on one quilt I picked up last week from quilter before it becomes a UFO... I got this! |
Still no UFO for me, but I am enjoying seeing what you all are completing, Piedpiper that is gorgeous. Teen we all know how you roll. I did a lot of cutting yesterday, masks, straps for masks, child's apron and chef's hat and pajama bottoms for me. My oldest DD checked-in today and picked up a few masks and bought more fat quarters for mask. Her team works hard and she says that she can use up to six in one five hour shift.
Everyone stay as dry as you can, now we are getting the rain and keep those UFO's coming cherryb |
PiedPiper: Great finish!
Teen: You can do it! cherrybsixty: You have been busy creating for others. ❤️ I really need to take a couple of hours and finish the tea towel with appliqué. I just get so sidetracked. I also lost my mojo for nearly a week. I’m hoping it’s back now. 🤷♀️ |
Piedpiper- great finish! Your quilt is stunning and that pop of color at the binding was a great choice.
Teen- you can do it! I have a March finish of sorts- 6 years ago I made a Jacob’s Ladder quilt and liked it so much that I immediately cut out a gazillion 2.5” squares and began sewing them together in pairs to make another one. Other things took precedence and now, I have no desire to finish it. So, I decided to use all the already stitched together 2.5” squares in my Debbie Brown Colorblock quilt for March. The squares that weren’t yet stitched together have already gone back into my scrap storage system. That’s one more UFO off the pile- Yay! Rob Rob |
Rob, that worked out well. Quick way to dispatch a UFO!
|
I'm stalled with UFO's. Have a large one laying across the LA machine. DH & I haven't had time together to load it on the machine.
Also, waiting on delivery of fabric to finish the twin spreads. A little bummed is affecting my Mojo |
Rob: Great solution!
petthefabric: I understand things affecting your mojo. Hopefully, the fabric will come soon and you will get the quilt loaded. I found another UFO but this one belonged to my DMIL. It was made from 2.5” squares but nothing matches, seams are open, etc. so I am taking the 34 or so rows apart. The row strips will be alternated with dark blue strips and sewn into 10.5” squares. This is a very long term project. 🙂. Great for tv time. |
Got some energy today. Did some planting. Then got the top and back loaded on LA. Need DH's help to cut the batting. This is great progress.
|
I'm listing the February finishes. If I miss anyone please send me a PM. Thanks to those who sent one for their Feb. finishes.

Today, took a road trip on the Blossom Trail to see the fruit trees in bloom. Had a great 5 hours with Sister. Made a stop at the Mennonite quilt center and donated a quilt top/bottom for their auction. They'll do the quilting. So one UFO out the door for March. Sorry, didn't even take a picture.

I finally got around to taking a picture of my January UFO finish. (conchalea it's already been counted)
How it started: In 2010, I participated in a 1.5" charm swap here on the board and decided to make 9P's. I had quite a few made up and played with fabrics to use as setting squares. For some reason I liked green. Then it sat. And then: I played with layouts in EQ and came upon a concentric placement of dark and light blocks. Not enough of any one green. Then it sat. https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...-a-t42414.html And then: Sometime in 2019 I decided to put this together. I still had the green fabrics. I used the lightest in the center, theh the next shade with the darkest as setting triangles plus first border. I generally don't use lighter colored fabrics in outer borders, but this gold based fabric seems to work especially with the green binding. Now how to quilt it; then it sat. And finally: I decided on a pantograph and got quilting. This pantograph double backed on me a couple of times and think it was my laser point that was a tad loose and changed it's trajectory. So had some frog stitching on it. It's been on my sofa since January. At 75 x 75 a cozy quilt to snuggle in! |
oksewglad, what a wonderful quilt! I love the effect of the scrappiness in the 9-ps.
|
Loved the quilt and the quilt story, Oksewglad. Congratulations on getting it done!

petthefabric: Sounds like a wonderful day-time with your sister, beautiful sights, and a top and backing for a great cause.

I'm trying to catch up, here. :)
In January, I finally did the quilting and binding on three tops my sister in law gave me about 8 years ago. I forgot to take pictures and I really should have. Those things have been nagging me for so long and I finally dragged them out and put them at the head of the line for UFO finishing. In February, I got three finished. "Anita's Arrowhead" - albeit only in tablerunner size - I am glad that I didn't start making a bed sized quilt without trying a few blocks first. I don't get along well with all those bias edges. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png I also finished a king-sized 1800s repro print quilt of stars and nine-patches - I finished quilting the center years ago - it was just waiting on the borders and binding. It may remain over the edge of my balcony, because hubs loves this quilt more than anything I've ever made before. And I made a quilt I'd had in EQ and charm squares for ten years - a disappearing 9-patch. I fused hearts of the country red fabric between the backing and the batting and that came out pretty. I don't know if my sister has found them, yet. I'm hoping to have a few done in March, too. Let's see what happens! |
thepolyparrot, three great finishes; I'm partial to the 1st one though. Lovely quilting on the tablerunner.
|
Count 4 UFO's for me. They are all small sized quilts from my church sewing circle that were tied last month. I trimmed edges, cut and sewed bindings on.
retired teacher, I guess I'm on the finish end of our group whereas you are at the starting point! We meet this Monday afternoon. |
Great finishes thepolyparrot!
Oksewglad, congratulations on finishing all three. Rob |
Awesome finishes Oksewglad and thepolyparrot.
I have made progress of the green and black lap quilt. Currently using my new walking foot, (This is wonderful!!!) Amazing how when you get the correct foot for your machine it works so much better. I only have 3 more squares to quilt then the binding! If DH plays in the wood shop tomorrow I should be finished with the quilting tomorrow. |
Thepolyparrot, like the little hearts idea. I have been hiding a heard in my quilting on all of my quilts for years. Most folks don't know, but I do. Someday they will find their heart and know I cared about them and gave them a bit of my heart.
You are a UFO wild one. Three last month and have more planned for March. Move to the head of the class. I just hope for one a month. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png |

I only did it with this one because there have been some uneasy times between us - the whole quilt was to let her to know that I still love her, but I'm going to follow your example and hide at least one heart on every quilt I make, now. Thank you! |
Elizabeth: Congratulations on your finishes! What a weight off your mind that your sister’s are finished. Love the hearts for her.
oksewglad: Wow to your 4 finishes! Yes we are on opposite ends of the quilt making process. ❤️ However, I am attending some of the Tuesday morning work times and have been involved in getting the sheet backings the correct size and cutting batting lengths. Expanding my horizons for the group. Just don’t ask me to use the very old industrial machine! We do not get along! Lol! Dedemac: I’m happy your new foot works well. WMUTeach: The heart is such a sweet idea. |
thepolyparrot, your quilts are beautiful!
|
Thepolyparrot....all wonderful finishes. That table topper rocks! Love the fabric and style of block used..
|
Polyparrot, I added your quilts to the tally for Jan & Feb. Your finishes revise Jan's count to 23 & Feb's to 25!
OK, I've put your 4 on the count now. I have one to add, too. Yesterday K & I finally finished my RWB! I'm very excited! My daughter came to visit 2 weeks ago, & since she lives & works in a large metro area with many Covid cases, I self-isolated for a week before going back to sew with K. While home I quilted the RWB, which is 84" X 104" That was a chore. At K's house we trimmed it on her 8" table, cut binding, then sewed it all on. She kept it arranged while I sewed it. I'll have to post pictures from my computer. I'm very pleased with it & I think my SIL, a veteran, will like it. |
Rwb

Here are some pictures of the RWB. K & her husband are holding it up. I used Donna Jordan's Hopscotch pattern for this top. I made 30 blocks, each is 16" X 20". I used all of my RWB 2.5" squares & all of my RWB fabric in this. I do have some flag fabric left from the back. I started this in 2019 I think, using the squares as leader-enders. Apparently I had a zillion of these RWB squares & I just kept making 4P. I then combined these into 16P, added the star points, and wanted a bit more on the blocks. So DJ's pattern was perfect for that little bit more. I used the 5 blocks on the back or this quilt would have been way too big to handle. K is waiting on an embroidery machine she ordered, which we plan to use to make a label for my son-in-law. He served in the navy & marines in the 80's so I wanted to honor his service.
|
A wonderful quilt...lots of squares utilized! Your SIL will appreciate it.
|
Conchalea, that is gorgeous!
|
That’s gorgeous, Conchalea, congratulations on finishing it!
