Polly that is a awesome quilt! Are the corners at a 45 angle? I love the way it arches over the corner of the mock bed. And did I read correctly you but the last border on after it was quilted? How do you attach it?
And yes, I put the borders on after the center is quilted on these big ones. I serge all the way around the quilted center - protects the edge in all the handling and also holds more glue stick for basting. I put backing strips on first, then the first border group and fused the batting in, quilted it, then the wider border and fused that in and quilted it. Serged all around again to help grab glue for basting on the binding. I started doing this years ago because FMQ on a domestic is easier if the quilt is smaller. The easiest part of the quilt is the outer few feet of the quilt, so this way, even though it's more work to put the borders on, my quilting is better on the outer edges. Also, the center of this quilt was done edge to edge by Missouri Star and I didn't want edge to edge in the borders - I love feathers and swirls in the borders and I like to do those, myself. |
thepolyparrot, what a great way to incorporate your borders. Thanks for explaining.

thepolyparrot: Very lovely quilt. Congratulations on your finish.

So far, we have 15 UFOs finished for March! Good job, quilters! K & I are busy making lap quilts for the wheel-chair bound patients in our local nursing home. We delivered 4 yesterday, with 31 to go. Today K finished the quilting & binding on 2 more, so we have 29 left. We made a trip to a thrift shop & bought several sheets for backing, sashing, or binding. I think we spent $20 total. On we quilt!

I haven’t been ( around) much in a while but I have been getting some stuff finished.
today I finished my 2020 temperature quilt- I didn’t do anything fancy in the quilting and found a couple booboos as I was quilting it. But, oh well- 2020 was quite a year, bound to have a goof or 2. Plus it’s finished in time for my daughter’s birthday on the 29th and that’s the important part- she’s been ( checking on it) since last March. the kitten Loves it! She checked out every inch- running, rolling, playing on it when I tried to get pictures. It’s Huge and I didn’t get great pictures I also finished quilting a ( much smaller 45” x 54” quilt) today, only binding left. My stack of ufos is getting smaller. |

I finished a quilt that I started in EQ in 2013.
64 blocks of 72 triangles each - 4,608 patches. I sewed pairs of fabrics onto dozens of strips of Edyta Sitar's HST papers and there they sat. In January, they were still attached to their papers and they were still overwhelming. :D It took about a week to cut them apart and piece the blocks. Sent it off to Missouri Star for quilting and I finished the borders and binding about two weeks after I got it back. No great place to show it without daylight, but it's done, done, done! |

Finished. Started 7+ yr ago for fire victims. Discovered, they needed to be received by the coordinating people within 4-6 mo after the fire, otherwise distribution is up to the person donating. Discovered many of the land owners don't live at the house, or even in the area. They use it for rental and aren't personnally going to be out because insurance coveres their loss and they aren't personally connected to the property. Did distribute Q's to persons who rebuilt and live in their homes.
Last yr was another forest fire and those Q's already finished were donated to residents of the Shaver area who suffered loss of all personal property d/t the fire. Expect more forest fires this year, so trying to finish what got to flimsy stage to be ready for the season. Attachment 632373 |
pet...great color combinations!

Petthefabric, a nice looking flimsy, I love long cabins. I hope that there will be a need for it, other than a fire victim

petthefabric: Awesome finish. Interesting discoveries on your part about donating quilts and house owners.

Neat colors and great quilting design on this one, petthefabric! Congratulations on getting it done.

These Stack and Whack pieces have been hanging around for years, but they're not a UFO any more - YAY!
Small thing, but DONE! I couldn't crop out all of the table, so the edge looks a little wonky, but it's a narrow navy binding all around. |
thepolyparrot...beautiful colors..would love to see the fabric you started with. My GD is working on a 4P Posie now. Amazing how different the blocks look.
|
Thepolyparrot-Congratulations on another beautiful UFO finish!

I finally have a completely finished UFO!! This quilt was made in 2019. It was a Grids Girls mystery, made out of Kansas Troubles fabrics. I quilted it on Saturday - my way of celebrating World Wide Quilt Day. It is bound and done!

I bought a package of triangles pre-cut on eBay years ago - I don't have a clue what fabric line it is - It's got some gold metallic detailing and there are dianthus and iris and forgetmenots and a couple of other flowers in there. I totally screwed up the sewing together, and I ended up trimming them to 8" instead of the 9" they were supposed to be, but I didn't care at that point - I will probably never try one of these Stack and Whack quilts again. :D It's a nice spring-y look for my coffee table and boy, do we need a taste of spring around here. :) |
QuiltBaer, that's absolutely charming! I like the circular quilting with angular pieces - yours looks lovely! And KT - what's not to love, right? :)
|
thepolyparrot: Very nice! I have never tried a Stack and Whack.
QuiltBaer: Very pretty and lovely quilting. |

When I saw these precut triangle sets on eBay, I thought that would be a good way to try it, and it was. I learned that I don't want to do any more of them. 😄 My hat is definitely off to those who master this - it ain't as easy as it looks! |
What thepolyparrot said, Quiltbaer! Congratulations on getting her done!
Rob |
Petthefabric: what a great quilt to post on the first day of spring.
QuiltBaer: a very tasteful quilt, I would love to use such a thing myself! |

Wow, some great quilts are getting done. Congrats.
I finally got the binding on my 2020 Round Robin quilt, the colors are a little washed out due to the lighting. My LA did a fabulous job, I love the texture on the tree. |
That's a great quilt, Mona! What an interesting quilt, all around! I love pieced and appliqued quilts and these little animals are so cute! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Mona G...very original...lovely

Great finishes!
Mona I do like what your LA did on the tree also. I know just the cabin for that quilt if you want to give it away.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png Quiltbaer you did a awesome job on the quilting, the swirls make the little squares softer. thepolyparrot - Done is very good size doesn't matter, I have that one on my to do list but haven't gotten the courage up yet. |
Some great progress
Today I got the quilting done on another forest fire quilt. YooHoo! Post pictures when it's bound. Now to pick another UFO to quilt. |
Mona G: Very pretty.
pettthefabric: Looking forward to your finish! |
MonaG, I love your quilt. Those squirrels are darling!

Ooooooooh, love the log cabin! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png
I seem to be stymied in finishing anything more this month, which is sad, considering how much I'd hoped to do in March. Waiting for backing fabric, waiting for background fabric, waiting to get my basting table set up, etc, etc. I'm going to be stuck on "Mocha Stars" for a while - I took this class with Kim Diehl in May of 2014 and didn't complete a single block, only some star sections. I dragged it out of the bin a couple of days ago and got to work. I've got the center sewn together and the borders pieced, but man, I've got a long way to go. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/tongue.png Starch-prepared flowers and berries and leaves - couple hundred teeny little pieces. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/shock.png At least I can sew most of it on by machine. |
ThePolyParrot - fabulous quilt! I love Kim Diehl's designs.
PetTheFabric - also fabulous quilt, and I love lots of greenery in it. Myself - my oldest UFO (from 2018 I believe) is finished. I am soo happy. This makes it 4th out of 5 UFOs. Yesterday I also started quilting the last one. It will be my first big and fully free motion quilted thing. I hope I will have all my UFOs done by the end of spring. |
Monag- fantastic finish, love those squirrels
petthefabric- great color combination- congrats on getting it off the pile thepolyparrot- that is a gorgeous block vasilisa- it must feel really good to be down to your last UFO... Super congratulations! I’m still dithering on whether I want to add any more quilting to the UFO I’ve been trying to get finished for this month, and also how to bind it...sometimes the decision making takes way longer than the execution. Rob |
Pollyparrot, what a stunning beautiful quilt center! I can see why you delayed but then, I can see why you want to get the quilt finished. I hear you sighing that deep sigh of accomplishment and admiration of such a beauty that came from you hands and needle. Looking forward to the next step toward the finish.

Oh my, such beautiful quilts! Congratulations on all the wonderful finishes!
Personally, I have fallen off the wagon! My next UFO in line needs to be sandwiched. We all got covid and I was too tired to crawl around on the floor to do the basting, but I *really* wanted to be doing something! So I pulled out my scraps and started another quilt...naughty me!! Now I have little scrappy squares all over my sewing table and I "can't possibly" interrupt that mess until I've got them all sewn together in some order! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |
polyparrot...all that applique, so pretty, too! I haven't done much and so admire those who do. (Yesterday at the shop we got a beautiful appliqued quilt of flower blocks to be quilted. It was lovely.)
Vasilisa...you will have those UFO's taken care of in no time...wish it was me with that progress. Hope you are on the mend PiedPiper. I so understand your need to do something little! Think of it as a therapy break. |
petthefabric, that's a wonderful log cabin. I love the variety of lights and how the red center shines out.
thepolyparrot, the 'Mocha Stars' is beautiful! |
