Conchalea that is perfect!

I should have a finish this week, I finished the quilting on this today and will clean up the threads tonight while we watch a movie. With luck tomorrow or Tuesday I will square it up and get the binding on. It's just a small lap quilt.

thepolyparrot 03-07-2021 04:32 PM

@Conchalea and @Dedemac, great finishes! I love the RWB and samplers are always charming. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

retiredteacher09 03-07-2021 05:45 PM

Conchalea: A beautiful finish! Congratulations!

Dedemac: Great color combinations and design.

oksewglad 03-07-2021 07:18 PM

Dedemac...a charming quilt!

Conchalea 03-07-2021 07:27 PM

Dedemac, I like your color selection. The green pops!

I used all of my RWB 2.5" squares & all of my RWB fabric in this. I do have some flag fabric left from the back. I started this in 2019 I think, using the squares as leader-enders. Apparently I had a zillion of these RWB squares & I just kept making 4P. I then combined these into 16P, added the star points, and wanted a bit more on the blocks. So DJ's pattern was perfect for that little bit more. I used the 5 blocks on the back or this quilt would have been way too big to handle. K is waiting on an embroidery machine she ordered, which we plan to use to make a label for my son-in-law. He served in the navy & marines in the 80's so I wanted to honor his service.

Outstanding QOV, Conchalea... Well deserving veteran. Please pass on my appreciation for his service.

Dedemac.....very cool finish.. I love the small blocks down the center. Great sampler idea...

Dedemac 03-08-2021 06:34 AM

Thank you everyone but it's not quite a finish yet maybe today or tomorrow. I was just showing the progress since this is the one that was suppose to be February. It's amazing what the proper walking foot for the machine make in trying to make a straight line! I'll send the email when its off the UFO list.

cherrybsixty 03-08-2021 05:46 PM

Oh Conchalea this is gorgeous your RWB, a great finish. You and K have done it again. I've always wanted to do one of those and an 'Irish Chain' one day I'll get to mark them off my list.

Dedemac your sampler is beautiful also

Got my first Covid vaccine today in another month I'll get second dose and I'll be ready to travel, stay safe everyone

Conchalea 03-09-2021 03:53 AM

Thank you for the compliments everyone. When I began the RWB as leader-ender sewing, I had no idea they would end up in such a huge quilt. I am proud of how well it turned out & it will look great on my DD & SIL's bed

petthefabric 03-09-2021 09:34 PM

Conchalea; sometimes just taking the journey leads to great reward.

Got a queen size on the LA and ran 1 pass. It feels so good to get this out of the stacks of UFO's.

Dedemac 03-10-2021 10:09 AM

Lap quilt finished!

Petthefabric, seeing progress always makes me feel good, I would love to have a LA or Mid Arm but no room so just have to limit to smaller quilts or send them out. I was hoping for a picture of the finished quilt but weather is not cooperating today 43 and raining, March in MN https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png yesterday it was 61! Could be worse it's snowing at my brothers house. I will take a pic when the sun shines again. Now to finish cutting the test quilt and work on a UFO from 2013

retiredteacher09 03-10-2021 05:41 PM

Dedemac: Congratulations on your finish! We had a couple of small hail spurts along with quick rain bursts, I agree to March in MN. Grrr!

petthefabric 03-10-2021 09:38 PM

Got the quilting finished. Now the binding.

Finished! Why it became a UFO: I don't like the quilting as much as designing and there was so much fabric calling my name.
Why I finished it. I want to clean up my LA room from the stacks of UFO's.
Attachment 632199 Attachment 632200 . The design elements were taken from these 2 books.

oksewglad 03-12-2021 07:22 PM

Well done pettf! It looks like you have to good resources to refer to. Isn't Judy Hopkins the author of "it's okay if you sit on my quilt"or something like that?

Another church UFO checked off the list...a small one made of poly knit squares tied by the ladies last Monday...one more to bind.

thepolyparrot 03-12-2021 08:22 PM

Yay, another two for March!

petthefabric, I love your purple and green with the large prints - very pretty!

rryder 03-13-2021 03:50 AM

Wow, Petthefabric- that is spectacular, the colors, use of hsts...great design and execution!

Rob

retiredteacher09 03-13-2021 06:45 AM

pettthefabric: Wow! Beautiful and now off your UFO list.

oksewglad: Awesome to the church UFO! I had to smile when you said poly knit because my church group just did a top made of polyester. Oh my! The giggles, shaking of the heads, etc, because the squares were a variety of greens and sewn very haphazardly with crooked seam widths. Sometimes, we get tops like this one. 🤷‍♀️

Still no UFO’s for me since January. I’m hopeful for a couple of finishes yet this month but other quilt projects are calling me.

oksewglad 03-13-2021 01:52 PM

Connie, my poly squares were more of the orange, pink and brown varietyhttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png and crooked seams!

Dedemac 03-13-2021 04:15 PM

Finally pictures

Drastic change in my plans yesterday DH got off early and we ended up going out to dinner with a couple in our bubble and then cards. So no sewing or cleaning after 4 yesterday. I promised a picture, I took them yesterday and intending to post last night.

That's so pretty! I LOVE the colors! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif If you can do work of this quality with your room looking so much like mine, then you should NEVER clean up! Just take that right off your list and get to sewing. :D

You two talking about poly quilts reminded me that I have a UFO that needs to go to the head of the line after this weekend. My grandmother pieced a poly knit rail fence and sewed it to a sheet. The seams are falling apart, and I need to repair that quilt and back it with something nice - it reminds me of an Easter basket - clear and pastel shades of all colors - just beautiful and so spring-y! She did a great job with textured poly knits and K-mart 4/$1.00 spools of thread.

Vasilisa 03-14-2021 02:48 AM

Happy to report a finish. Pics soon, look out for "Starry Sky" in the Pictures forum.

I haven’t been ( around) much in a while but I have been getting some stuff finished.
today I finished my 2020 temperature quilt- I didn’t do anything fancy in the quilting and found a couple booboos as I was quilting it. But, oh well- 2020 was quite a year, bound to have a goof or 2.
Plus it’s finished in time for my daughter’s birthday on the 29th and that’s the important part- she’s been ( checking on it) since last March.
the kitten Loves it! She checked out every inch- running, rolling, playing on it when I tried to get pictures. It’s Huge and I didn’t get great pictures
I also finished quilting a ( much smaller 45” x 54” quilt) today, only binding left.
My stack of ufos is getting smaller.

thepolyparrot 03-14-2021 04:55 PM

I love the flying geese block - it must have taken ages to make enough for a big quilt like this. Beautiful, fresh colors!

I like how you are using the different stripe prints between your strips of geese. I haven't ever tried that.

Another UFO and one more on the way - good going! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png

Dedemac 03-14-2021 05:40 PM

I have another UFO finished, the easy way. I was cleaning my sewing room today and decided to just toss a the Jean quilt I started 18 months ago for our church group.

retiredteacher09 03-14-2021 06:20 PM

oksewglad: Well, the quilts will be warm and will last for as long as someone wants them.

Dedemac: Very pretty! As far as your Jean quilt, sometimes, we need to let go!

ckcowl: Lucky daughter!

That's right, my BIL calls them nuclear blast quilts..they will protect you in one!

petthefabric 03-14-2021 08:10 PM

Finished another UFO. Probably won't get a picture, it's too large to stage it. It's a stack n wack with dark burgundy and surrounded by teal.
So that's 2 this weekend. Pat me on the back and say congratulations!

rryder 03-15-2021 06:16 AM

Wow! 4 finishes this weekend! Congratulations, Dedemac, ckcowl and petthefabric!

Rob

retiredteacher09 03-15-2021 04:54 PM

oksewglad: I am going to try to remember your BIL’s comment! The church quilter’s will get a kick out of it.

petthefabric: Congratulations on your finish!

I finished a quilt that I started in EQ in 2013.

64 blocks of 72 triangles each - 4,608 patches. I sewed pairs of fabrics onto dozens of strips of Edyta Sitar's HST papers and there they sat. In January, they were still attached to their papers and they were still overwhelming. :D

It took about a week to cut them apart and piece the blocks. Sent it off to Missouri Star for quilting and I finished the borders and binding about two weeks after I got it back.

No great place to show it without daylight, but it's done, done, done!

Good for you - that takes courage! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png

One less thing to nag you. ;)

Definitely, congratulations! The burgundy and teal sounds awesome.

Staging quilts is a problem for me too, especially the big ones. I would have to clean my bedroom first and that is WAY down my list of priorities! :D

Vasilisa 03-16-2021 12:52 AM

Polyparrot, what a sophisticated quilt! Congratulations on the finish, it must have been labor-intensive.

it took the year of 2020.:it’s my temperature quilt- the large center triangle is the high temperature of the day, the small triangles are the low temperature. One block a day for a year. I started with a chart - temps ranging every 5* from minus zero to 0-5, 6-10 etc. up to 100+ then assigned a color to each 5* increments. Used scraps and kept track of the temperatures all year, sometimes I would not be able to sew for 3 or 4 days and could look at my day planner and catch up my blocks . I sewed each month into columns alternating pointing up/ down and kept each month labeled . Amazing that I stuck with it for the whole year- my daughter was a motivating factor since she fell in love with a couple strips and asked for the finished quilt when its done- when I was about 2 1/2 months into it.

rryder 03-16-2021 03:52 AM

Love the temperature quilt, Dedemac- good job sticking with it!

thepolyparrot- Beautiful work- Congratulations on overcoming the intimidation factor to get it done!

Polly that is a awesome quilt! Are the corners at a 45 angle? I love the way it arches over the corner of the mock bed. And did I read correctly you but the last border on after it was quilted? How do you attach it?

Ohhhhhhhhh~ I wondered what a temperature quilt was! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif Thanks for the explanation!

Lovely, different looking quilts, thepolyparrot and ckcowl! Perseverance gets them done!
