Tirnhi:
One of the first things I learned when I started quilting and was upset because I made a mistake or two and wanted to go back and take it all apart when my quilt teacher told me "Only GOD is perfect, quilts and people are not God so perfection isn't expected!" Now I leave perfection to God and do my best with the rest.

Its ok that they didn't accept the quilt...its in great hands now. This particular quilt was donated for their " a gift to go home with " program. I opted not to sew the ones they use in the NICU, because of the stipulations, but for the going home program. They take donations of new, gently used and handmade baby items for preemies especially, but also non-preemie babies from families in need. I remember when Alicia was born and a very kind anonymous lady made a special quilt for her to come home in and wanted to pass the kindness forward, which is what happened in the long run. But with a the special blessing of getting to watch this particular preemie grow and flourish. So all is well, and things are as meant to be.

I think it's great you got to see who got the quilt. I'm sure you were just beeming!!
I think that sometimes people get too caught up in the "perfect world".
Wish there was one.
I love donating to different causes, only because if I were in those shoes, I would want someone to help me out too.
Actually, I was there at one time. When I had my youngest, we were getting ready to move from RI to GA. Child of mine decided she wanted a bottle and nothing to do with me. We really didn't have much money and we were driving 2 cars with 2 kids and 2 cats. (child was 2 weeks old when we started the travel) I found that I could buy a case of 3oz bottles of formula for $30 at the local pharmacy. It would cost me about $100 to buy enough for our trip. My mom had mentioned to the nurse that was there for my delivery, the delimma I had. Three days before we were ready to leave, I got a phone call from the nurse. She said I had to go to the hospital because there was something I forgot to sign and needed to have it signed ASAP. I go there and to my surprise, there were 10 cases of the little bottles of formula for me. The nurse explained to the distributor what was going on and it was left for me. I was amazed!!
Not only was the formula there, there was also a care package for my oldest daughter so she didn't feel left out. I just stood there and cried.
I think if there were more people like those of us that donate/give of ourselves to different charities/organizations, the world would be a better place.

Quilting Aggi: I'm with the Amish on that one. Well I believe most quilters, and I certainly include myself, make a few mistakes, some can be corrected and some disguised, and some, well, you just hope they don't show too much. When I look at a quilt I just think of all the work and dedication that has gone into it. I am always coming across "rules" that I didn't know existed and realise I have broken them all, so I'm amazed how my quilts actually come together. So long as I enjoy making them and they give someone pleasure that is my reward.

:-) I'm enjoying this 'thread'..

As I said in my intro - I have a huge stash - and the reason I have a huge stash is, I'm trying to get as many fabrics (quilts) as possible before the following:
1 - we get too old to go running around to get fabric - as I said, we are in our 60s plus we are out in the 'boonies'... no fabric stores within 100 miles. I have 'health issues' that's going to make it very hard for me as I get older to go running around - rats..

2 - the price of fabric is going to be going up and up because of fuel and frankly we can't afford this $8 and up material

3 - fabric stores possibly closing

4 - (and the most important) I LOVE IT

I guess that place wouldn't accept any quilts I make either... I think every one I've ever made is a little cattywampus.... and let's not discus the backs on quilts I'm learning to stipple on.... sigh
I can't hand quilt anymore - my hands hurt and cramp right away.. I did manage to hand sew the binding on this last one tho... but quilting a whole quilt is out of the question.
I am in a "homemakers" service club - we do projects for the nursing homes, hospice, newborns, etc etc and the quild I joined does also - we're going to be doing two charity quilts for the Local AARC and something else to sell to raise money.

Janeen...good for you and your group who are doing stuff for nursing homes and AARC, etc. Doesn't make your heart feel good that you've made and given something that you've made that shows your great love and caring. I know that I do when I give away my quilts. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the "Justification" list. . . . I'm with ya on every point you made!

 What a wonderful imagination and great thrifty buys will do. Your "firstest" quilt is great. Keep up the good work.

For a charity, how about your local hospice? Those families are direly in need of warmth and comfort from caring hearts!!
