UFO Challenge of the Month 2012
#1291
I have entered several fairs and quilt shows. They qualify Novelty as a fabric print type. That category may be the better one otherwise I say the pieced. Yes, it is an original, but that category generally gets more art type quilts. At least this is my opinion on where I would put it. I love it and looks wonderful and is making me hungry, time for lunch here in the pacific area. Also, if the judge thinks it should go in another category, they will put it there for you. See, you can't mess up and it looks like a winner to me.
Once again QuilterMomma you are a great inspiration to all of us!
Here is a question I would like to post....looking for opinions. I am entering my "Canning Jar Quilt" into the County Fair. In looking at the registration form I must pick a category for it. They are: 1. Novelty, 2. Original, or 3. Pieced. I'm not sure what the "Novelty" category would be? Anyone know? Or, would it be considered an "Original"? I had seen a canning jar quilt a few years back, BUT I did not have a pattern, I drafted mine from memory and the outer border was my idea; a way to use up the left over scraps of fabric. So, what do you think, I really need help with this. I have been quilting for years, but I don't usually enter contests. My grandkids who are 4H'ers (they raise hogs and dairy goats) have talked me into entering the quilt and a baking and cooking contest......we've really had a lot of fun testing recipes. Well to get back on topic.....I have attached a photo of the quilt as a reminder of what it looks like.

Thanks Quiltermomma! I didn't realize that a Novelty would be a fabric print type, I kind of thought it would be something other than a typical pieced patchwork...silly, silly me. Yes, I was afraid that Original would be for those talented folks who can really draw, unlike me who can only do straight line patterns....I'm definitely not artistic when it comes to drawing!
I like the pine burr so far, can't wait to see it finished.

Hi everyone.
Looks like QM has been really busy. You're doing great, QM.
The Pine Burr is well on its way to becoming a beautiful quilt.
Nanachar, ...Good for you, entering your quilt in the fair.
IMHO, your quilt deserves to win.
Good Luck!
Everose, congrats on getting those long-term UFOs to the finish line.
You go, Girl!
I really like the Santas Galore.
I need to start on some Xmas projects but Xmas in July just doesn't work for me...maybe September.
Fraew, Congrats on your first start-to-finish completed project.
Now that you've learned to use the machine embroidery function, a whole new world is awaiting you.
I like the quilting you did around Santa but I LOVE those star stitches. They give the project an old-fashioned look that I really like. Did you do the stitches by hand or is it a fancy stitch on your machine?
Would love to have that stitch on my machine.
I have done very little sewing lately. I am still trying to decide on sashing color for my sampler blocks. I have lots of time to decide as I am hand quilting the blocks. Yet, for some strange reason, the sashing color is uppermost in my thoughts. I have been fiddling with the colors in Paint ( thank you Rose_P!) but keep changing my mind.
Also, still have a pile of panels that need finishing but don't feel like doing them. Summer is for outdoors. In my neck of the woods, you have to enjoy the sunshine while you can because, if you blink, it will be gone!
Keep up the good work everyone.
Happy Quilting.

I tried Fraew, you should know me by now. Oh, that is right, your comment says I made it to the funny.
Well, I have some more finishes to report. The patriotic DQ is on the swap board, but here are four more. The band table topper I made two of them of so only posting one.

Then this one is for a class sample. i have two more to finish this week so can turn in to teach this fall. It is Edyta Star's pattern in her latest book. I am making in 30s repors and r/w/b.
