I've had several crock pots through my life, have bought cook books specific for crock pots, have had various sizes, tried various recipes and can honestly say, that I/we haven't liked anything cooked in them. It seems to us that it doesn't seem to matter what kind of meat, spices, veggies, etc., that you put together, they all taste the same--blah. I know others that absolutely love them, but personally, I'll do without one.

Since it's just you, if you want to try one, I would go with a small one and see how you like it, then if you like it, you can either be satisfied with that size or get one bigger. On the other hand, if you don't like it, then you haven't spent a lot of money on one.

This Thanksgiving I made my cranberry sauce in my new 'little' crockpot. I cooked it half way, 3 hours, traveled 6 hours to grandkids home, plugged it in and finished letting it reduce for 3 hours with the lid off. We were all drooling with the sweet aroma floating about the home.

PS: then I popped the remainder of the cranberry sauce in little ziploc containers and put them in the freezer to bring out whenever we want a little fresh cranberry sauce.

With every contribution I learn more Maybe stupid but I didn't know you could cook with the lid off. I was wondering about reducing sauce, now I know.
I think I will try one, just a smaller one as I don't need to cook for a whole family. I still have to decide which one. I've read lots of reviews on different pots and about 3 or 4 are still in the running!

Anael, make sure it has a stop, warm and hot cooking dial on the crockpot. We have used our 'one' speed very little and they do not last very long...its stop and go cook on hot...and do not remove from outer pan, its all one unit. I tried smaller ones, since there's only two of us, but they seem to cook hotter, hot enough to burn fingers and hand on the lid...the 4 quart was also suppose to travel well...but in my mind it did not function well...and was a safety hazard. So it sits on the shelf, looking pretty with its bright red color.

Thanks QNS! The ones I've been looking at all have the stop, warm and hot options. I have been looking at a bright red one too, I hope it's not the same you have sitting on your shelf! I will post a link to the pot later so you can have a look.

I looked at Dillard's Kitchen stuff today; that's a big department store in the USA...and they had more than the stop, warm or low, and high on their Crock Pots...and slow cookers. And prices ran high for the 'tech' stuff. One had a meat probe so the meat would cook to the correct temperature. That's what I need for my dh to use when he cooks. Our first microwave had a meat probe.
