I sew into 4 patch blocks. Then put those together as larger 4 patch blocks. Repeat. Easy to square up the blocks this way, ends up way more accurate for me than sewing rows together.

Yes. I made a few using just a piece of muslin as the 'batting' - trying to be economical - but they look limp and unfinished. Using actual batting, or Pellon 988, gives a much nicer look and feel.

I save everything. Small pieces for coasters, table runners, etc (they can be pieced). Really small bits, like one inch strips, I'll eventually use to stuff a cushion.
