Denim is so hard, I did a rag rug in denim and it worked, but very, very heavy. I would not use denim in a quilt again. Mine was a long lap quilt.

Since they were both made in Singer's early days, either one. I like black myself. Singer has been bought out several years ago and it's not like it used to be, stay away from those.

To tell you the truth, I am far from being an expert, but my first quilt was the Ohio Star - which we did by hand, and it came out beautifully. It's not that easy to lose your tip.l Try one.

My guess is the quilt at the baby shower would be for a baby's use in a crib which you could quickly do some. If he wants a larger quilt, that's going to go that fast. I'd do one at a time, add up...

I just bought a soft rubber thimble at Sue's Sewing for under $2 and it works great. I didn't do well with the metal ones, they fell off all the time. The rubber ones stay with your finger. I love it.
