A very fine quilter in our town had a quilt over her coffin and her quilts were on display in the church. It was a lovely tribute to an equally lovely woman.

How beautiful...

I've always said that I don't want that shiny fabric stuff in my coffin -- bury me with a quilt! I do like the idea of using a quilt rather than flowers. We had some flowers when my husband died, but my favorite is a three-foot tall cactus that my son-in-law sent as a reminder of when we lived in Vegas.
A quilt display would be so much warmer than flowers!

A few years ago..Mark Lipinski did a wonderful article about quilts on/in caskets. with old B&W pictures..it was done for generations.

i went to a funeral in Ohio and "red" was a big Buckeye fan..they had the fleece blanket over his casket..i thought it was so appropriate! and giggled, and told his wife how happy that would of made him!

i love flowers..but want flowers from my garden,if possible. i also want to be creamated and taken on one last motorcycle ride from michigan to florida..and left there in the ocean..

The year we moved here to the country, one of the young ladies up the road died to breast cancer. She was an avid quilter and had not only made a quilt to drape th outside of teh casket, but had made a quilt pillow for her head and quilted the whole inside of the casket and the blanket laid over her.
I did not know her, but folks said they had draped her quilts all over the church, had table runners sitting on tables, etc. and apparently was the talk of the town for quite awhile.
So yes, I hope my family uses one of my quilts and then my body will go to science for whatever they need and the rest creamated and strewn in various places I have requested.

Definitely thought about the cost. Thought I might have the lovely Red Hat (it is huge) that my granddaughter bought for me put there but I do like the quilt idea. At one of our special Red Hat lady's funeral we all were seated in the front row at the funeral all in our outfitys. She loved the group and her family thought that would be a nice thing to do. Quite different anyway.

I had to laugh when I read your post about being highly allergic to flowers and not wanting flowers at your funeral. I've been saying the same thing for years! A quilt on the casket is a alternative and one that certainly represents a passion in my life!
