We split my grandmas ashes, The BIG urn went down stairs to my grandfather, it now sits in my ungrateful aunts bedroom covered in what is on her dresser. I post about her in my diary thread thing... We have a small urn sitting in our kitchen in this big window that we keep a lot of her collected Elephants, sort of like a shrine to my grandma.
We used to have my grandmothers urn in the living room but our cats kept trying to get it... they just wouldn't leave it alone.
One day my Abuella (step grandmother, step dad is from mexico and she said we could call her abuella, well she told Jorge we could...) said that the cats are trying to tell us something about the urn, so I'm like mom, Grandma liked to be in teh kitchen all the time why not move her there.
So we did, and the cats NEVER bothered the urn again.

I loved the poem.
Made me think of what my father said shortly before he died in 1979,
"If you can't remember me in laughter, don't remember me at all". Not sure if he was the one who came up with that or not, it could be from a western or someone else he admired over the years.
But I still remember and laugh. I even had a recording of his voice --- on a cassette of all things, but it's voice. We have no video, lots of pics too.
I wrote a poem about him a few years later that focused on the memories I had of him while I was growing up.
Prayers and thoughts to you Gwyn and to your family.
Made me think of what my father said shortly before he died in 1979,
"If you can't remember me in laughter, don't remember me at all". Not sure if he was the one who came up with that or not, it could be from a western or someone else he admired over the years.
But I still remember and laugh. I even had a recording of his voice --- on a cassette of all things, but it's voice. We have no video, lots of pics too.

It was from Little House, Patricia Neal played a widow Julie Sanderson, with 3 children. She knew she was dying from cancer and asked Charles to find homes for her children one was named Alichia. The widow Sanderson wrote that for the Rev to read at her church service. It was a 2 part episode and there was new puppies involved and in the end Mr Edwards gets married so that he could adopt the children. And they live happily ever after. That was probably my favorite episode.

We both have told our kids and oldest Granddaughter that we want immediate cremation, don't waste money on a funeral for us, I have no family left and DH doesn't want a funeral. It is way too expensive and a waste of money that may be better spent another way. Who knows if they will do what we want, but, they know.
