When I did the binding for the 96 x96 quilt, it took an afternoon to machine sew the binding on the first side--------and two evenings in front of the TV to do the hand stitching. No real hour count.

Great idea. Maybe you can promote your service through local long arm quilters to build referrals.

    My LQS charges ((L x 2))+ ((w x 2)) x .15 So to hand sew the binding to the back only would cost you on a 50 x 50 would be $30.00

I like the hand stitiching part too. I find it relaxing
and I can sit and watch tv with hubby ( unless he is watching
one of his really awful shows).

I charge 1.50 per foot for machine sewing front and back. If it will be machine sewn on and hand sewn on back, it is 3.00 a foot. I do a lot of hand bindings for the girls that want to put their quilts in the shows as I use a real fine thread and you cannot see my stitches on the back. As for my own quilts..........mostly machine, I'm tired of working on them by the time binding comes around.lol

I just paid $15.00 to have a large throw about 59 x 76 and that was machine stitched on the back and she folded over and hand stitched looked great. She has also machine stitched and did the whole thing for for $20.00 before and the same for hand or machine. She is a streamstress with a small office right next to mine. I think she just does this for me but I hate binding and love her prices. I would no way pay $50.00 plus to have a quilt binded. My sister has a long arm and she only charges .01 per square inch to quilt!
