I like the per shirt pricing idea. To me this gives the customer a better concept of where their $$ are going. I would also have a Minimum $$ per quilt price based on size just to make sure they understand that if they choose only one shirt the prices is not $15 for a queen quilt.

In NY $350 and up is a going rate with backing and batting provided by quilter.

Made one for a friend, gave me $200 for labor and later sent me another $150 felt he hadn't paid enough. Given $200 from husband' s daughter for labor. $112is not enough or you will be asked by many to make one for them, you haven't figured enough hours

I know people who won't do a queen-sized for less than 450.00. It just all depends. Custom is customized to specifications.

I have made two twin size t-shirt quilts for a friend. She was going thru a nasty divorce and wanted her kids to fond memories of their childhood. She paid for all the supplies, I only charged her $150. for doing both the quilts.

I would ask why you are doing this? To make money? As an act of friendship? Because you enjoy the process, love to make quilts? If it is primarily money, then you definitely need to charge as is appropriate to time spent, at least minimum wage etc. If it is either of the other two that might modify what you charge. I have done a couple of things for friends (not a lot) and charged them only for materials explaining that my work was a gift to them (usually adding "you couldn't afford me"). For me this is a hobby, not a vocation. At the same time, I like to make it clear that it is time consuming and original custom work is expensive.

I made a queen size t-shirt quilt and charged $600. The lady didn't bat an eye. I will never do another for that price. It's a lot of work so my price has gone up to $950.

Thanks to everyone for the post, this information is good and it gives me an idea of how to charge and keep track of time I spend quilting, which I have not been doing.
