Thanks for the links. I do 2" hexies. I fold fabric strips in half lengthwise and press enough to hold it down. Then use my acrylic template and depending on the length of the fabric, I can quickly cut a lot of hexies. I have the paper templates wrapped in foil that get hot enough from ironing the 1/4" fold down. goes pretty quick so I can start sewing them together. Works for me.

I started cutting my scraps into 2.5" squares to make a postage stamp quilt "someday" LOL. I found they are a perfect size for making 1" hexies (measure the sides, not across). Hope you can see these. I was a little rushed to get them up for you. First is my organized 2.5" squares (I have several boxes now), then the front and back of one hexies (I trim after I have sewn them together), then a few flowers I have completed.

I print out my paper hexies, and cut them out with scissors. I use mostly 1 inch hexies, so I cut the fabric in 2 1/2 inch strips. then into 2 1/2 inch squares. Pin the paper to the square, lope off the four corners, then baste. Of course if you are using larger or smaller hexies, would need to adjust the size for the fabric. Just make sure you have a good seam allowance with what ever size you are using. Good luck.

Well, I am not using scraps but hand piecing 1930's reproduction fabrics into Grandmother's flower garden with plastic foundations pieces knowns as "quilt patis" - they are wonderful! The quilt patis come in different sizes and give you the most perfect hexagon - just google "quilt patis" to check it out. I've been doing my project since 2009 and it is quite good therapy for me. Pati is the copyright owner of this great invention - nothing in it for me, just trying to be helpful.

I thought the biggest Fiskar punch cuts 1" paper pieces..that's what I have.....use index cards, file folders, mail back cards in mags, old greeting cards.......
