We have them year round. Of course, we don't get that cold generally.

No....it's not true that they won't leave if you don't take the feeders down. Keep them up until you are SURE they are all gone. I'm horizontal to you in Kentucky and I still have one that's feeding, so I am keeping one out there until I haven't seen him for at least 2 weeks.
Migrating is an internal clock. They don't linger just because there's food. Their body tells them when they have gained enough weight, when the air is cold, etc so they know instinctively when to leave.
They fly all the way to Mexica and into Middle and South America. The ones you see next year were here the year before too. This year I moved one of my feeders from the kitchen window to the side area and this one little guy kept looking for it where it used to be. I knew he had been here last year from the way he searched.

They are usually gone by mid September around here.

Your flying flowers are all down here! We've had more here (Coastal Bend of Texas) this year than ever before, and you can see some of the action at our feeders at my YouTube channel (kcallander989).

They're still here, but only about 20 at a time now, instead of the 30-40 we were seeing. I'm pretty sure these are new to town, since they're much more combative than the others. And there are far fewer males now than there were.

We've seen Ruby Throated, Buff Bellied and Black Chinned. We will likely leave our feeders out all year, as we've been told there are a few pairs that stay here during the winter.

The hummers we have do not migrate, so I keep my feeders full all winter.

Think mine have flown south here in the middle of Indiana.
