Ugh I have had the same problem happen more than once (and in fact just yesterday when I washed my just finished quilt....) I have done what Tartan suggested with good results. I don't like to use interfacing - its too stiff - even the light fusible stuff. I just take very small ladder stitiches and as long as I am careful, I can pull the top piece over the frayed one and still have enough solid underneath to ctach without puckering.

I can hear you ****** all the way to Fl. I too feel your pain. This has happened once to me. Lord help me I was so mad. I did get it fixed before the brides shower party

DM makes crazy quilts for the family. One quilt she forgot a seam. Makes a nice story and we kid her on occasions, but we will take the quilts and love them anyway.

My guess would be would not enough seam allowance width on both pieces of fabric.

That's exactly what happened. I made the HSTs by placing the colored fabric on top of the white, sewing them together then cutting them apart and I cut the seam allowance on this piece shorter than 1/4". It is also the bias edge so it isn't as strong as the other edges. When I washed it, there was pulling on this seam and it gave way by fraying.

This happened just a couple of weeks ago on a quilt my DD had made for a granddaughter. I was able to blindstitch it so it didn't show.

Sounds like a good fix. The ladder stitch is great to pull those seams together invisibly after stablizing.
