Smooth Top Stove Update
#31
I have had my stove since 1976. I use ASTONISH Household cleaner on it. That is the best product I have found to clean my stove top.
Love it!!! I saw it on an infamortial and QVC. Bought it, tried it, loved it.

I missed the original post on this. I have a smooth top(hate it) and when it gets something on it I can't wipe off, I use Bon Ami cleanser (hard to find) and one of those netting scrubbies. Wash off the top with your hot water and soap, apply the Bon Ami and swirl around the spot, let dry for a bit, then use the scrubbie. Wash again with the soap and water and buff dry. Works like a charm everytime.

I totally broke out the razor blade last night....whoooo wheee, what a difference! I was just playing around really, so I didn't get it showroom clean, but you can see the grey outline circles now a lot clearer!

Most smooth top stoves do not like copper bottom pans. They will cook but the copper is not recommended. I was lucky in that my solid bottom pans were exactly what should be used according to everything I found on the web and the papers that came with it. I previously had cast iron solid burners which also had to have solid bottom pans.

Yes, some pans like Revere Ware have copper bottoms with stainless steel tops. Those and the ones that are all copper are no-no's. Stick to a good stainless steel with a flat bottom and you should be ok. Some older pans will become oval shaped on the bottom after alot of use. Those need to be retired. The pan must set flat, or you risk the possibility of cracking the glass top. The burner needs to have constant conduit to heat, so don't ever remove a pan without turning off the burner. That'll cause breakage as well.
