I am an early riser, so much gets done in the wee hours. But once the quilt itch starts, housework stops and I retreat to my sewing room. I will break and start a cleaning project, then back to the sewing room. I do hate to vacuum, so I push myself every 3-4 days to get that done. It's only me and hubby now, retired and enjoying life. I don't fret over housework anymore. It gets done,,,,, eventually.

My husband and I are both cleaners so we have a checklist of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, twice-yearly and yearly chores. Since I don't mind cleaning I tend to do things in bursts - a little quilting, a little cleaning, a little playing with the dogs, a little more quilting...etc. If I didn't work full time I can't even imagine how much I could get done.

Not a dumb question at all. I actually do not clean like I should or fold laundry. I think sometimes that maybe in my old age I am getting lazy. I just seem to find more enjoyable things to do. However, I do need to get these things done this evening when I get home from work. That way I will not feel guilty for quilting.

me too- I've tried not to be too compulsive about it, but really, I have to have things straightened up to be relaxed enough to enjoy the fun. If I try to skip over it, I am down and don't enjoy anything! It is what it is!

As far as I am concerned dusting, vacuuming etc can just wait until I decide I want to - or perhaps get the feeling of HAVE TO lol - do it.

Life is far far too short to be a live in maid!

I love that quote Julie! I feel the same. Between grandchildren and my sewing machine not much time for anything else I WANT to do. Thankfully, my hubbie is onboard with this. We have fun! Thanks kindred soul.

This discussion reminds me of a story I read long ago in a great book-A Woman Doctor Looks at Love and Life by Dr. Marion Hillard. One of Dr Hillard's patients consulted her that she was married to a minister who always wanted to make love on Sunday nights and it left her too exhausted on Monday to do the family wash. The kind Doctor responded "do the wash on Tuesday!!"

I specialise in the 10 minute tidy each morning -- which is usually enough to keep the house looking good (beds, kitchen, newspapers, dog bed outside to air, pick a few fresh flowers). Oh, and did I mention that I pay for a cleaner 3 hours on Friday -- I worked full time all my working life and have decided that is the one luxury I need -- no smoking, gambling or drinking (well maybe a few gin and tonics per week)and besides, the cleaner needs the income. It's all in the way you rationalise!

When I am deep into finishing a quilt, all the housework goes on the back burner. As there is only me, I let things go. Now that I have a Bible study at my home every Tuesday evening, I clean the living areas on Tuesdays. The rest, well, I'll get it sometime!

If I waited until my house was clean and my chores were done, I would NEVER have time to quilt. Steam clean?? What's that?? I bought leather couches so just have to wipe them down when company comes--otherwise the dust does NOT bother me.
Every day there is something different(usually kids' schedules) that takes up my time and quilting is always left to the wee hours when I am too tired to see straight. Bummer!
