I really like my new machine. I had a 25 year old Whirlpool from Sears that I had had repaired many times. A couple years ago, it broke and I decided to replace it. I did a bit of reading online and realized that you had to load them differently so I did that and have had really good luck with it. It takes much less detergent and gets my clothes really clean. I find that I rarely have to use anything like Shout spray to get stains out. Most seem to come out without extra treatment. It does take longer to do a load of clothes and I do have to wait a few seconds for it to unlock before I can put something extra in, but I consider those minor inconveniences.

Well, the MAYTAG makes a horrible sound when washing. And this is normal according to the folks at Maytag! Said a new design drive was the reason. What is wrong with appliance designers these days! If I didn't have a laundry room with door there is no way this could be used in an open room. I don't recommend a new Maytag.

In my first post I told about not liking the digital washer and buying a Maytag basic one. After a few loads I knew this new Maytag was not what I wanted. It was LOUD and we could not get the machine to balance. It shook and vibrated during the spin cycle. The installer said that was normal for these new machines as Maytag went with a new motor drive. I knew I wouldn't be happy with that mess so exchanged it for a new GE top loading washer. It will arrive Sat and this Maytag will leave Sat. What a hassle to find a new washing machine! I saw one that must be for the laundry impaired. It had the stain listed on the dial for the cycle to choose. The control panel looked like a spread sheet. I told the salesman I will be returning washers until I found one that acts like a washing machine should.

the new 'normal' is the new irritating to all of us. Seems they cannot make anything these days without it making noise!!

Was just having this conversation with some friends last night. They purchased a top loading maytag with agitator. It is digital, however. Does make noise but their machines are in the basement so doesn't create too much of an issue for them. Another one of the group is in the middle of buying a new electric stove. They don't want glass/ceramic top. I'm going to have to buy a new car soon for the first time in 18 years. Can you imagine the culture shock I'll have with THAT particular adventure?!?!

My washer & dryer are over 20 yrs. old and I hope they keep on working. I'm not looking forward to having to buy one of the new machines. Too much electronics to go wrong.

Why does the government think they have the right to regular everything? I have a new GE washer -top load- and it twists my clothes really bad. I have to untangle long sleeve shirts and pants. They are a mess. I've never had that problem with a washer before.

..and the sad thing about this is one cannot have a demo at the store...have to find all this negative stuff out at your home when it's plugged in and ready to go! It's a gotcha!

This GE I bought has an agitator. The salesman said no agitators saved a lot of money in the making of the washers so expect all new washers to not have them at all. Most young buyers want the fancier with lots of gadgets not caring about actual function of a washer.
