In the book Paula discusses methods for sewing the tiny pieces together by sewing larger pieces together in strips and then cutting the stripped fabrics from templates. She doesn't want us trying to sew the tiny pieces together directly, which is good news.

lainealex I just sent pics. to you.
I went fabric shopping yesterday and got some prints to work with. It was hard to find white or very light blue on a dark blue background. I found bright blue , navy and black, but hardly any that actually match. I'll try them out and see.

I really want to see the types of fabrics that people are using for these blocks.
Thank you, and your avatar is spectacular!

OK, got my book and had an opportunity to look it over last night. Whew! Looks like a bit more than I want to work on. Looks like the fabric selection is really the make or break on this. I bow to everyone who is making one! I'll just admire from afar.

Well, I have read through the book a couple of times now and somehow, I still can't quite understand how to create the templates.
Am I meant to draw snowflake patterns on the templates and then fill in with stipped fabric pieces?
Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Lainey

In Part Three of the book, she has examples you can use for patterns. If you study the numbered sections of the triangle pattern and then look to see which fabric she used, you'll understand what to look for to replicate that design. I think those examples are just a jumping off point for everyone.
I have finished reading the book, have bought more fabric, but don't have the template plastic or the clear rulers yet. My fireworks quilt is taking my time right now, as I want to get most of it quilted before I start on something new.

I'll maybe be able to start a snowflake in the next month, I think. My fireworks quilt is almost all fmq'd. I'm on the outer area now. It's been a lot of stitching on this one, both before (surface stitching) and quilting. Most of my scale has been 1/4". It's a wall hanging so the stiffness doesn't matter.
