Thank you all for you thoughts and insights! That is why I love this board... so many I would have never thought of on my own. I will say that I agree with all of you as far as hand piecing and how relaxing it is. I have spent many hours watching TV and sewing.. its very relaxing. My concern is how well the project will hold up. I guess I don't trust my hand sewing . I have decided that this will be a project that I will take my time on.. and if it takes me all year so be it

I have done 2 GFG hand pieced, and they turned out just fine. This is a great take-along project to do while riding in a car, waiting at dr's office, watching kids play sports, watching tv, etc. Eventually you will have enough flowers and paths to make a quilt. I have a friend who sewed large hexies together ( I think 3 1/2-inch), then appliqued to a 12-inch square, then used sashing to set hers, and it looks good, too.

I kind of get how to put the individual hexes together. Use the paper to hold your shape and baste the seam allowances around the edges on the back.

My question is how do you sew all the hexes to each other?

I tried making some 2 " hexes on the sewing machine and it was basically a big mess. I think for me at least that hand sewing would be faster and more accurate. I have a lot of respect for anyone with the patience and skill to complete any hexie quilt.

I have not gotten the machine out since I started paper piecing. Easy peasy with glue and precut hexes!

Thank you, the picture is sideways. Inspired by a Bridget Giblin I saw somewhere.

I've done the same thing as you. I bought the hexagon punch and it works great. I love your quilt you made too.

Rodney,
You put two hexies back to back and whip stitch them together by hand. It is really easy.
