I found this out at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, WA, last month, and it has been bugging me all month. Kaye Wood is no longer the Janome specialist . Janome just dropped her!! :hunf:

Marie Osmond is the specialist. To me she is just another 'Martha Stewart'. She has her 'name/hands' into everything, but can't really do it all.

Yes, Marie has a broader celebrity name then Kaye. And maybe Marie can sew, but Kaye is a sew-er/quilter!!

Would you or your none sewing friends purchase a machine just because someone is a celebrity????

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Vent any time. And NO I would not buy anything just because a celebrity endorsed it, used it, or made it. No matter what the product it has to do what I want/need it to do and at a cost I can afford in order for me to buy it.
I don't even buy name brand food, or clothes for the most part unless they are what I'm looking for, but Not for the person/name behind them. lol

I wonder if that has something to do with why my PBS station has dropped her tv show?

That is just terrible. I love Kaye Wood. Her designs are so unique. I bet Marie Osmond has someone to do her sewing just in case she sews over her fingernails. How many of us have done that!

What finger nails???? I keep trying, but working in the fabric dept, and cutting fabric all day, tends to wear them down, so they are short.

I agree, I would not buy somthing just because a celebrity has her hands in it. I loved Kaye Wood, I'm wondering also why I have not seen her on PBS. I could care less about Marie Osmond, I never did like the woman anyways.

I am rarely influenced by a celebrity telling me to buy something. I do have a janome 6600, but I cringe every time I see those Marie Osmond ads.

I agree 100%! I buy what I want/need/can afford after exploring the options and reading multiple reviews...at least for the high end items. But I don't buy name brand if there is a store brand out there that is comparable.

I don't have anything against Marie Osmond, but I can't quite wrap my head around looking to her as a sewing/quilting expert. Wouldn't have a lot of impact on me, now Kaye has a rep as that type of expert, her I would take advice from, Marie...hmmm...nah!

It used to be that celebrities had to actually use the products that they endorsed - because before that, they had all these "big names" touting everything from toothpaste to watches to cars and couldn't even pronounce the names of the stuff...
Now then, is that still true? Can you see Marie Osmond sewing anything? What is a "Janome Specialist" anyway?
Does this person know all about all the different Janome machines? Use them? Use any? Actually sew clothes? Quilts? or just sit down for two seconds and 'draw' a quilt and call it a design?
    Don't ask me....
I usually make up my own 'designs' from traditional quilt blocks (way fun with EQ LOL)
Are you gonna buy Jenny Craig $$$$$ food just 'cause Marie lost a pound or two?
come to that, why is Marie Osmond so hard up for cash that she's out touting everything from diet foods to sewing machines??
    but then, that's just me...

I'm going to play devils advocate here. Do you think it might be because Janome is trying to reach a further audience than just quilters? I know Marie is well known for her dolls and the costumes they wear. Don't know if she actually makes them or not, but that could be a whole new area for Janome. I'm not an expert on any of this by any means!!!! I also don't buy something just because a celebrity endorses it, but I will often give something a second look if I am familiar with the celebrity's "style" of things and I have liked them in the past. For example, Rachel Ray, Martha Stewart, Paula Dean, ect (sticking with the household stuff). I actually have no idea who Kaye Woods is! Just a thought.
