The topic section "Main" has the heading "This is where we talk about anything related to quilting." I keep reading topics that I don't see any connection to quilting but they are posted in the "Main" category. Is this o.k. or not an issue to be supervised? I would think the chit, chat, etc. would be the category to use for jokes, weather, what I'm doing today, etc. topics.

Yes the main section is for anything quilting related but like you I have noticed a lot of general chit-chat in there too.

I agree with you! My thoughts are that many people just seem to post wherever without looking for the appropriate section Admin has created for various discussions. They took a great amount of time to create the many areas that would be of interest for all people. Many new members post in Main when we have the Intro section for them. Not everyone seems to take the time to familarize themselves with all the specific areas of this board. It would make it so much easier if people did post in the appropriate section so those of us that do look in the various sections would find the topics that belonged in that area. I have even seen postings in the classified section that really belonged in Main or GCC.

That said Admin and the moderators do a fabulous job in trying to keep things on topic but it would be a mammoth job for them to continually move them to the appropriate section with the thousands of comments made daily by members. I feel it is the members responsiblity to familarize themselves with the categories provided for specific topics and post in the appropriate area as to not crowd out questions and helps in the Main area for quilting only topics. Especially since there are so many postings in a given day and topics get moved further and further down on the list. Not everyone has the time to go to the 4th or 5th page to see if they they could help someone out or express their opinions when asked. One day I tried to look at as many pages I could and was astonished to find postings that were not answered or only had an answer or two that did belong in that section but were moved further and further down because of exactly what you are talking about.

The only solution I know is that members were more conscientious about creating a topic in the appropriate area. That said, none of us is perfect....least of all me.

Agree, some of the stuff posted here should be posted in "General Chit Chat" :) I think some are just not use to posting. Its a learning curve, Im sure.

I think it is because that is the default setting when you post a new topic.

you can always report a mis-placed thread to the moderators and they can move it.

Or remove it, in the case of people selling timeshares and puppies.

This brings up another question. I posted my question by clicking on "New topic" in the Main section. When I look at the topics listed under Main section now, some have "New Topic", but my posting does not. Can anyone explain why?

I think because it is not new to YOU. On the other hand, I would see it as a New Topic until I read it.

I've noticed this trend too and find it a bit irritating... I have my Recent Topics list customised to only Main, Pictures and Tutorials as the Board is so big now, I have to prioritise my reading time. It IS a bit annoying to have the spaces on 'my' list filled with topics I have no interest in...

I have been on here a while and think I know where to post, then after posting, phooof, I get moved right away. SO thank you moderators for moving me where I belong and I don't even have to pack. *H*U*G*S* Also, with the number of members on the board, I can see how quickly your post can move to other pages, I always try to read at least the first 5 when I browse. GOtta be quick on here. Especially in the picture section. SO many posted.
