Quick and Easy Binding
#41
Good job with your tutorial! This is the way I do my binding for all the same reasons! I sometimes use a decorative stitch, but usually use a straight stitch. It is durable, looks nice and it is quick!

Beautiful quilt, by the way.
I have suffered the same ineffective results as you mentioned, and have always wondered .... <G> The difference between brilliant and curious is - - the brilliant ones actually do more than wonder. GREAT JOB! Thank you! <wave>

Thanks for the tutorial.. I have wanted to try this but wasn't quite sure of the seam allowances.. More than 1/4" less than a 1/2", I'll try 3/8"!! Your explaination was very helpful..
Some quilts need a nice hand finished binding, but baby and children's quilts that are used and washed need something more substantial.. This will be just the ticket... and much quicker!

Might have to give that a try with the next batch of QuiltforKids quilts.
I go machine stitch them down from the front using a decorative stitch on my machine. In order to be sure I catch the edge on the back, I pin it in place from the front and determine the width I need. Seems to work well for me.
I only machine stitch the bindings on the quilts I donate to them. All else are hand stitched.
Thank you for your well done tutorial!

Nice job - Darn it I wish I had read this about 4 hours ago! Just started the binding on a test "whole cloth" quilt - I'm trying to learn to do machine quilting with a new foot on my Featherweight.
The comments about durability of the binding are really critical for what you and I try to do. I'll definitely try this on my next two quilts which are underway.
