I've not worked with much of anything but squares.

So when sewing on triangles, how do you line them up to come out right? I know there's little pieces on the ends to cut off, but what do you line up?

I had to rip out block #1 and do it again.

SewHappy, That's a really good idea. I started keeping a list also after writing all the info on where to find each block page for you last night! It is truly difficult to find the exact thing you wanted out of all these pages. A time or two I've tried to go back and have never found what I was looking for. Sometimes I think someone is gaslighting me, or I'm imagining things.

Line up the center of the triangle side that is to be sewn with the center of the piece to which you are attaching it ... i.e., if you are sewing the triangle to a square, match up the centers of each; make tiny center creases with your fingers, put the creases back to back, pin & sew ... make sure it is exactly centered before you sew; once you get it pinned, you can tell just by looking at it if it is centered. Some folks do not pin when they are quilt piecing, but I pin at strategic points.

    Thanks weezie for the instructions.

I noticed there was a lot of triangles in this quilt, so I needed to learn how to sew them correctly now.

You're welcome. There are other ways besides what I told you, but they require that your pieces be cut absolutely precise. With my method, even if the cutting is not exact, the triangles can still be centered.

Hi all, I want to join you in your efforts to make this FWS. I already started a year ago throuhg a LQS as a BOM project. I didn't make all those blocks, but have done a few rows in the top left corner. So I didn't start through numbers, just by row. I think I best start here with number 1 and so on as the numbers are mixed in the quilt. Never could understand why and how! I am working with Civil War fabrics. I just need to know where I can post pictures of my finished blocks although in this group you are not at those numbers yet....

Welcome Marianna! If you go to the main thread for chit chat for the Farmer's Wife quilt, that might be the best place to post your pictures until we catch up with you? We're doing two per week, at least that's the goal!
