Don't we feel old sometimes trying to explain how things used to be in the "old days!"

Which made ask about phones. She has never used a rotary phone and never heard of 'party lines'. But she does still see 'old-fashioned push button phones' on walls. OMG, just roll me in my grave now.

I'm only 30 and my car is a standard... it was cheaper to get that way so I went with it. I have always had a standard car though. My next one will be an automatic though, time to start thinking about easier with kids in the car for whenever that happens.

HOW FUNNY!!! Made me laugh out loud!! I remember listening in on our neighbors when we had a party line. The thing I heard were not fit for a 12-year-old's ears and I was dumb enough to ask my Mom what those things meant. That led to "Where'd you hear THAT??" and I was caught, LOL. Didn't stop me though.
I even remember "Number please," from the operator. Boy, were those the good old days or WHAT???? I absolutely hate my cell phone. I only carry it because I go so many places with my grandchildren and their mothers insisted I be able to get ahold of them. Sure lived a lot easier lives when we COULDN'T be reached in a car. My goodness!!!"

I learned how to drive a "stick shift" on my fiance's new GTO in 1971. My Mom had previously tried to teach me and failed. She told my husband-to-be that if our relationship survived his teaching me - it was meant to be. Well, we will celebrate our 40th next month.

A few years ago I was looking for a car - found a nice used car for a couple of thousand and was looking at it. The guy at the lot told me - you don't want that car, it's a stick shift. I said "why not". He said well, women usually don't know how to drive a stick shift. I told him when I learned to drive there wasn't anything else and I learned to drive in a 1932 Ford that had a rumble seat, floor shift with a big dice knob on top and an Ooogah horn. Loved that new (sorta) car - got 30mpg on the freeway in rush hour traffic (LA). On the interstate it got 44mpg.

i still have a rotary phone in my basement. it's like me - not new, but still working! unlike cell phones, they don't need a tower and they never need recharging. and if anyone breaks in, i'm ready with a weapon.
edit: it's the old heavy black one that holds the receiver up high. love it!
