Bobbin confession
#94
I really think it depends on the kind of machine and bobbin.I thread the hole, wind a few rounds and then cut and finish winding.I did have 1 machine can`t remember name and it had solid bobbins so had to wind a little bit and then wind. Also a machine tech.told us in a class to wind your bobbins at a moderate speed,do not put the pedal to the metal.

I bring the thread through a top hole - - but I also use one of those little wire threaders like for hand sewing. Just put it through the hole down into the center of the bobbin, put thread end in it and pull it right out the top (just like threading a needle). Then hold onto the thread while you do a couple of winds on the machine and snip off that top thread. Works great for me.

When I bought my machine they told me to wrap it around the bobbin until it "takes off". Well, being the stubborn person that I am I did it my old way of threading it through to the top hole but I couldn't get the leader cut close enough and had problems. So I decided to do it his way - no problems since.

I've always wrapped my thread around the bobbin about 8 times and have never had a problem once in the 20 years I've been quilting. I didn't even know there was a hole to put your thread through. I'm going to go look at my bobbin and see if it has a hole. My mom taught me to sew and she wrapped the thread. You know you usually do what your mom did and that's what I do.
