Although I am new to quilting I do it because I enjoy the process and seeing the finished project. When I look through the beautiful quilts you all display here I can't help but think of quilting as a form of art and what wonderful therapy it is.

Quilting is a lot of things for me. It all depends on the day we talk. This week it has been therapy because we are moving and I am overwhelmed. Last week at a fabric store it was a hobby cause you can't tell total strangers about your "therapy" like that. Last month it was my passion. I was on this board and shopping for hours at a time almost everyday. Someone has paid for a quilt so next week it will become my job but only for a fews weeks then we may switch back to therapy or passion. We'll see.

I call it my addiction. I can't retire because I can't afford to quit and quilt.

It's both a hobby and a passion. I imagine there are stamp collectors who feel the same, passionate about their hobby as ours is to us. Same for any pasttime (pastime?) that gives someone joy.

I don't sell any of my projects so it isn't a job. To me that makes it a hobby. A very expensive hobby that also gives me lots of fabric therapy.

When I see a quilt, I do see art. Mine may not be art to everyone else, but I hope they can see the love that is sewn in every stitch. :D

Nope, because it has such a large creative element in it.
It is an art form, once called a part of "needle arts" and an important part of our collective heritage.

I think of quilting as a vocation, my art. It satisfies my need for self expression. It's my blank canvas on which I can express myself.
