HELP....question on quilt as go method.....need advice....

as most know i am doing farmers wife smpler , king size, I have fibromyalgia and cant handle that size quilt on machine to quilt.
so im thinking of doing center first, then add more to sides, will not do sashing until last maybe. Any good suggestions. Thanks.........

Definitely doable. My friend did her DearJane as QAYG.
It was just too daunting for her to face the whole thing. She hand quilted each block at her leisure, and then put it all together using QAYG.
Kimberly's tutorial is well written with a lot of detailed pictures.

You can adjust the method to whatever you're specific project requires. So you can do it block by block, section by section, whatever.

Topper1 I'm doing the FWS as a quilt as you go. I'm quilting my blocks with the batting individually; I'll add the sashing and cornerstones to the blocks and then add the backing in all one piece. I'll then quilt around the blocks so the backing will only be quilted in straight lines. If you go to the FWS section here and find the thread marked FWS sashing and layouts, there are others doing the same and you might get more suggestions.

I'm doing a QAYG now. I divided the quilt up in four parts and sewed the blocks together to make one quarter of the quilt. This quilt has no borders but if it did I'd add the borders to each outside quarter to be quilted along with the blocks. No one can tell it was quilted in sections, the back looks like a pieced back because I usually use different fabrics for the back for each quarter. It's takes very little basting for a quarter of a quilt. A queen or king size I divide the quilt in 6, 8 or even 10 sections.
