How many are basically lone quilters or have close friends they quilt with?

Another lone quilter here. I do have quilting friends and we talk via computer and share ideas. I tried a guild once, but was the newcomer and did not get good vibes from the others. Got stiffed in the swaps they did, so backed out of that one and won't rejoin another one. There are 3 in the area I now live but don't wish to repeat the bad experience.

They are shooting themselves in the foot if they would restrict you from being a member. Your quilting skills are wonderful, if they only knew what they were missing, they would regret this policy. I'm sure some of the members would have a lot to learn from you.

I enjoyed the 1st guild I joined about 4 years ago. The second guild I visited I didn't join. the third guild I visited a couple times, but just didn't "fit". We all have different personalities so all the guilds/clubs will have different personalities, You just make an adventure out of your visits and find your spot! I may eventually join another guild and it may be the one where I didn't fit. Membership fluctuates.

Oh my gosh. How outdated, sexist and just plain silly! We have several men in our club, all are quite talented. At least one of then has been president and chair of the Dallas quilt show. Then there are are Mark Lipinski, Ricky Tyms (sp) just a few of the national professionals. those women need to take a good look at the old bylaws. They were probably written many years go.

The best quilting group I know of is Project Linus. I have learned so many tips and received so much inspiration from this group. We sometimes have men come and join, and if they don't sew, they tie, and we have the most fun making quilts for children ages newborn--18 years old. No one is critical--every quilt is valued and given with joy! Although I work full-time, and cannot attend the day time workshops, they meet once a month on Saturday and I'm blessed every time! I encourage you all to see if there is a Project Linus group near you. They make up their own kits with simple patterns, and I take one home, dig through my stash and make two--one for Project Linus and one as a gift. Fun, fun, fun! :wink:

Hi again from Colorado,
Here I am coming out from lurking, wishing all you lone quilters were here.
We have to greatest group of ladies that meet twice a month to sew and quilt together. We're a charity group, give most of our snuggle quilts to Colorado fire depts. The fire fighters give them to kids they see on their emergency runs. We've also started giving twin-sized quilts to a battered women's shelter locally so there's a lotta quiltin' going on here.
There are about 45 of us that participate in the Sew Days fairly often but we can also sew/quilt at home by ourselves, then bring the finished product in for 'show n tell' before they goes into the donation pile.
We've become really close friends now, that go on road trips and day trips and retreats together. It's wonderful having buddies that enjoy the same thing you do. Wish I could get you all here to meet them!
