Has anyone ever used kitty litter to make the bed warmers? I need to make a rather long one and don't want to use corn or rice because of the smell.

I've used plastic pellet beads-they work great. Personally, I'd stay away from the kitty litter-too smelly!!

    NEW litter. New litter. New...

    Hehehe!~

Well, come to think about it, some of it does stink even before the cat gets into it. Maybe some brands don't. And wouldn't the plastic melt when stuck into the Microwave? Some plastics do and some don't. Just have to try them. I think that I'll try some of the stuff I just got in the Microwave. Might or might not work. Then there is Feline Pine..

Don't use it unless you want the cat to pee on it. How about some rice?

The plastic pellet beads aren't made for microwaving/heating are they? I would be afraid of the release of chemicals, plastics have to be approved for this use

I wouldn't use the kitty litter, it isn't made for heating up either... Rice, corn, flax seed... are better choices IMHO :D:D:D

Most brands of kitty litter will break down into dust plus the least amount of moisture causes clumping. If you have access to whole foods buckwheat kernels are excellent.

I filled classroom bean bags with rice and some with pea beans and used them for years without odor.

Whatever you decide to use, fill a form first and craft a removable, washable cover for it. Good luck.

I also think the kitty litter might be dusty

Buckwheat is the best. Also dried used coffee grounds are great for small heat pads.

I wouldn't use cat litter either but I thought the pellets were ok. Didn't think they might be bad- good to know!
