I like classes where the teacher has prepared a sample of the work at different stages to show you and not one who is trying to throw something together in class and doesn't have time to help the students because she wasn't prepared. The worst is where the instructor has to stop and wait on shop customers. Some of the classes I have been to were terrible and others have been wonderful. It does make a difference.

There is a big quilt shop in the next town, but I can't set foot inside it as they have 2 shop cats. I'm very allergic to cats. Lots of pretty fabrics and I can't go in there. :cry:

Having someone at lest acknowledge you and say "hello" is a great habit that ensure feeling like a part of the group......

also, a place where information is posted about classes, events, etc and where it can physically accessed......not in the back room only!

A quilt shop I love, has a 'membership' and then you can use the back room for basting. Membership is cheap, maybe $10 --I do not remember howm many times you can use the room, but it is nice to have it and it is a win, win. Sometimes the owner will help baste if she is not too busy.

What a lovely idea...to open a store but first get opinions from shoppers!! You are "in hiding" so how will we know where your shop is??? Give me a hint!
I love the "tea" day posted by pattypurple. I would definitely attend and buy and sign up for classes, etc. If it were close by. I don't visit the local quilt shop 8 miles from here because there are never ads in the papers, never hear anything from/about them. If you haven't bought a machine there you don't get on the list apparantly. I did stop in and visit about machines but they were way over my budget so not very "friendly".
I'm sure you've been to enough LQS to know what works and what doesn't. Best of luck to you. (And hoping you are close to me!!)

Good lighting! All different kinds of fabrics or patterns not kinds.... thread, rulers, and machine help. I guess an all in one store.

i agree with all of the above the 2 that are important to me are friendly employees and fair prices

I agree with you all. But the thing that really gets me is when you are not knowledgeable about the quilting and sewing world. They have people who work in walmart and joannes who have no clue of what you're talking about.
