I just started quilting in January and I do have a question for ALL of you quilters....What type of batting do you recommend? I've purchased some at WalMart for baby blankets and it's really thin. I purchased a roll at an estate sale and when I quilted that baby blanket, the batting was so much heavier. So I'm not sure what kind or weight (if there is one) that I should be looking for. I prefer the polyester batting rather than cotton. Any input would be so kindly appreciated.

I like the Quilter's Dream products. I am a longarmer and refuse to take in quilts with Fairfield or Mountain Mist products. They shred and do not hold up to many washings. It is a shame to spend so much time on something and cut corners at the end with a batting that will not hold up. Just my personal opinion based on my personal experience.......

I'd seen where some suggested Quilters Dream so I bought some. Haven't tried it yet but I like the thinner batting because I don't want, or need, a really warm quilt. Just depends on what YOU prefer. I used the batting from Wal-Mart in a lap quilt I made for myself and it's been washed hundreds of times and still in wonderful shape. Not sure that I'd use it in a larger quilt though. Here's a link for Quilters Dream you might like to check out. Gives great descriptions of their product. Good luck!! :-) http://quiltersdreambatting.com/

I use cotton batting (Warm and Natural)...IMO, polyester is like wrapping yourself up in plastic. I don't want to spend $100+ on making something and not put the good stuff in the middle.

I agree with using Quilters Dream Cotton batting. It's beautifully made and very soft. Polyester batting is hot, synthetic, chemicalized, and burns (melts) easily, none of which one would want in baby quilts, in my opinion.

Your local quilt shop likely carries QD products. You can also purchase from online shops. Jusy google it.
