I really believe that the lesson for us here is to UNPLUG all small appliances including our sewing machines when not in use. Turning them off apparently does not prevent these types of problems. My daughter had 2 toaster ovens start on fire when not in use. Fortunately, like you she was right there and was able to put out the fire. I was also told by 2 fireman that I met at the grocery store, that the "plug ins" that use those little oil bottles are very dangerous. The ballist (? spelling) inside them can cause a fire. We were checking out and my checkout person and the firemen were talking about her house fire and how they responded to it and that it was caused by a "plug in". These, as I understand it, are the larger plug-ins. Yolanda Wood River

But the company needs to be aware of the problem or someone could be killed in a house fire. Save a life report the problem.

Mine did that, too! I thought I did something to it. But the leaking with Rowentas has made go back to a cheaper iron.

I had a couple of Rowentas and loved them but the present one I hate. No more for me. I will buy a cheepie from Walmart that doesn't leak.

did u call the company immediately. Right now......before you spend another minute passes. That company thinks their product is the finest. Keep going up the chain if you get the run around.

I also had my Rowenta spit fire at me a couple days ago. Burned a wire in 2. I proceeded to remove the back, inside removable parts, cut the burned wire off above the burned short, re stripped the wide ends, poked them back where they belonged, plugged it in and started ironing again. Works better than ever!
I purchased this iron for $5. at a yard sale about 10 years ago have had no other problems with it--love it! It never leaks, never changes heat, does have the automatic shut-off, which I really like.
Every iron I have ever owned has quit, leaked water or just quit working, so this time I have one I can use twice as long.

Sorry you had a bad experience with Rowenta. I am on my third one and I love them. But I will unplug it now even though it has an automatic shutoff. Thanks for sharing your experience.
