I have learned that to change my blade at minimum when I change the clocks.

My husband sharpened my blade on his knife sharpening stone, it was sharp again, didn't last as long as the sharp edge it had on it when I bought it, but it did extend the life of the blade- I am always thinking of a way to save $$

My DH sharpened my rotary blade on his knife sharpening stone, it was sharp again for a while and extended the life of the blade, not as sharp as a new blade though.

Change your blade, says the girl who FINALLY changed hers today after trying to tell myself it wasn't that dull YET. Well, yes.it.was . When I changed it and started zipping through the cutting, I was like, "You can be brilliant when you want to be!" LOL

I like this idea. Think I will use it. I am very guilty of not changing the blade when I should. I just keep pushing it further to get more use out of it. Then when I finally do change it, I mark it for cutting gift wrap and such. Got a lot of life left in it for that and other things.

When my blade skips twice I change it. I don't save it for paper or to be resharpened. I have learned to move on.

I was at quilt camp when my blade started acting up. I took it out, turned it around and had no more problems.

Over the years,I've tried various rotary blade sharpeners with very little luck until I tried the electric True Sharp brand and I've had good results. I also tried the blades from Harbor Freight, but they did not work for me. Then I found out by accident a very good quality rotary cutting mat is the key to keeping the blades sharp as long as possible. I found mine as a show special at a quilt/sew expo. I don't have to change or sharpen blades as often as before.
