I had two nieces who stole a lot of memorabilia from Mom's house after she died in July, 2005. What I miss the most is the quilts she had stored in her trunk. There were 8 bed size and 1 lap throw that had been quilted by my grandmother (Mom's mother) that the quilting looked like a child's beginning quilting, but my grandmother could barely see what she was doing and it was probably the last quilting she ever did. It was done in the last few years of her life and she passed away at age 91. These two nieces have never married (ages 59 & 56) and I think they probably sold them for money. My Dad raced horses (he died in 1968) and they took all the memorabilia from that and I don't have any pictures even (nor copies) to look at except a few snapshots. There were several awards letters, and I don't have copies of those even. I lived 500 miles away and was Mother's executrix and my husband died 4 months after my mother--so you can imagine. These nieces live in the same town I do with their mother and father who both need watching over now. I'm afraid my sister and her husband are being the victims of elder abuse--just not of the physical kind, but they sure are being lied to.

I am so sorry nlgh, I DO know how you feel. I have a half sister and a brother who did basically the same as your Nieces. I received almost nothing of my Mom and Dad's when my Mom passed away. I had finished the piecing of the quilt about a month before she passed and couldn't look at it for many years afterwards. I didn't bring it out til I met my new husband and moved away from everyone and everything I knew. It had to come out because I was moving. It reminded me how much I missed her.
You do know that there are people out there to talk to about possible parental abuse. It IS against the law in EVERY state. Your sis and her hubby have to be made aware that they do not have to endure that abuse and there are people out there that can help them.
Your nieces will someday get what is coming to them, as will my half sis and brother. It may not be today or tomorrow or even next week, but KARMA has a way of coming around just when they least expect it. It WILL happen.
Just remember your Grandmother and Mother in the best possible ways, heck someday maybe something they had will come to you when you least expect it. You will cherish it more than ever then.
Keep your chin up, and give us a big smile. Everything will work itself out in the long run.
    :-D

Beautiful job both on the quilt and the quilting. A very precious memento.

Your mother would have loved this quilt, and even more, the daughter who so thoughtfully made it! Remember that your love for her is a reflection of her love for you and snuggle uop tight in your mother's love forever. Great new friend you have made in the whole process- see mum's still looking out for you!! Loved your quilt and the love and kindness it represents!

I understand all this. I lost my father before I finished a quilt for him. I decided to go ahead full-force and use it to on my couch. It will be like cuddling with Daddy. I call it Daddy's Sampler.

Stunning quilt. Your mom would have loved it. Best wished on your wedding and I hope the quilt makes you smile.

Wow such a lovely quilt you made in honor of your Mother.
I'm sorry that your Mother passed away.
I lost my own dear Mother in 1999. I made her quilt too,
its called "Crossroads to Jericho", I took it home with me
after my siblings and I cleaned out her house.
