I had this happen to mine too. What I did was along with the gib screw was take the plate around the feed dogs off and I was able to use my serger tweezers and get it out. I used a needle too.

in case it was not obvious, there are TWO set screws holding bobbin base/hook to the rotating shaft. But removing the needle plate should get you access to thread jams. Harbor Freight sells a hollow ground ratcheting sccrewdriver that gets into tight places like that. good luck!

One thing I've learned is to NOT turn the handwheel backwards, it will snarl the thread in the bobbin area. The owners manual says to finish sewing and pull the bobbin thread and top thread to the back and a little left when done with a seam. I had a tendency to do (turn the wheel backwards) this to get the needle to raise before the last stitch is locked...had to break myself of this quickly after locking up the machine two times in one afternoon. Oiling down the area and gently pulling on loose threads released mine.

I just bought this machine, it was jammed when I got it. I have taken off the throat plate and can see that there is thread down in behind the bobbin base, but I cannot get the bobbin base to move AT ALL. There is no loose threads to pull on. Don't want to yank on it (bobbin base) to much, for fear of tearing something up! Which would be my luck...lol Anyways, gonna take the bottom off tomorrow and see what I can see from that angle, and once I find my oil :/ I will put some down in there to see if that works.
Wish me luck!

You will all be proud to know...I fixed my Featherweight! With much internet searching and researching, I took that little puppy apart and found someone had assembled the bobbin case base backwards. Go me!!!! But, I first had to take it completely off the machine and SOAK it in machine oil and let it sit a while before I could get it unlocked from each other. She is a sewing right along now!

I can't see anything at all in or around my bobbin case and its just seized up where you can't get it to move to the position in order to move it out. Pulling my hair out.

I have the Exact same issue. I (stupidly) tried to sew with some upholstery thread. Now it is jammed so bad, I cannot rotate the bobbin case base in order to remove it. Did you ever figure out how to fix this problem?

The Singer Featherweight Shop website http://thefeatherweightshop.com/ has a lot of wonderful videos on how to maintain/repair your featherweight ("Schoolhouse" on the menu). I highly recommend them! They are also on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3-qEvw_V0w -- this is the one that walks you through getting thread from behind the bobbin case. When you take the throat plate off, you may see thread and lint, even broken needle points, if it wasn't cleaned before you bought it, near the feed dogs as well. I used 3-in-1 PENETRANT (NOT 3-in-1 oil! Use only sewing machine oil. ) to free up the bobbin holder on mine. I also bought the maintenance kit from their online shop when it was on sale to get their recommended grease, and the oil bottle with a fine tip.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I was able to turn the jammed bobbin case base after soaking several days in tri-flow oil I was on the verge of removing the entire hook assembly, when it finally turned and I was able to remove the piece of thick upholstery thread from between the bobbin case base and the hook assembly. I'm not sure that removing the hook assembly would have helped, so glad I was patient enough to give it a good oiling over several days. At first I was using sewing machine oil that I purchased from my local sewing machine dealer. Then I used the tri-flow oil, not sure if that made the difference, but I will be using tri-flow from now on exclusively. Good luck to those of you that have had this problem, just turn machine up on end with bobbin assembly on top and keep filling the area with tri-flow oil!
