June 4th. It would be a blast meeting up with those in N. CA area that post here on this board too. The Treadlon group is the GoldCountryTOGA.[/quote]

They will be meeting about five miles from my house on the day I leave for my sewing cruise.

After buying DD4 a POS Singer plastic chainstitch machine for her b'day last week, I've decided that it's going back to the store.

Have you sewn on this one? I was thinking about finding one of these for her. (If they are indeed a viable option!)
The other option I was thinking was a handcrank. (...by converting my Great Grandmother's model 15 treadle head)

Sad that I will miss you and Nancy. I do hope to meet with you at the Fall meeting! Have fun on that sewing cruise.

Hi Miriam, You are too funny! I removed the bottom and stated to play with the little white triangular piece(plastic) that slides on a post that is connected to gears underneath the bobbin area. I got the bobbing winder to work by holding the button down as it was filling. I have the Singer 6268 and you don't have to hold the anything down.Should I oil this post that the above piece slides on ? I am going to oil wherever I see moving parts except the gears. Should I put lubricant on the gears? I don't want them slipping. I checked out the zig zag stitch and it really sews nice. The only thing that bothers me now is that when I turn the hand wheel manually it gets a little tight and I have to use some effort to turn it. I'm not sure where to oil or lube for this. The manual only shows to oil in the bobbin area and inside the face plate where the presser bar assembly is. I was a little leery taking off the top and it was hard to get it back on. Advice needed. What have you got to lose by taking it apart and oiling it? Oil any thing that moves.

It looks like a 600 variation of some sort to me. The 600s were still all metal. They just have the &*@#*$%!#)%*#)% Touch & Sew bobbin winder

The bobbin itself could be the problem. I hate those Torch & Throw machines too. But the bobbins get nicked up or warped or what ever - try a brand new bobbin in there and see if it works. The 600's weren't too bad if you can get the bobbin to work. After that they used plastic. Best to stick with 500s or older - they were all metal and they work just fine. Before you throw out the Torch and Throw, save the parts... LOL They work on the 4 & 500 series - well, some do...

Hi Everyone, My DH brought in this machine in today..one of his golfing buddies gave it to me. It came with the accessories/manual and 16 cams :-D :-D After reading the problems with the Touch and Sew 758.. I'm wondering if I'm going to have a problem with the bobbin winder. The button that has to move to the left to engage the winder doesn't move to the left. All it does is just wiggle and I'm afraid to push too hard..I don't want to break it. Is there anyone here that is knows more about this bobbin winder? I haven't checked it out yet or tried to wind a bobbin...maybe I should first. I will do that now. Anne

Anne, My machine worked beautifully before I used the bobbin winder. I had very nice straight stitches, zig-zag, and made a nice buttonhole. And then I tested the bobbin winder. I had no problem getting the bobbin winder to work, but afterwards the tension was messed up. I took all parts out, cleaned (found a tip of a needle and small bits of the black rubber from the feed dogs), and then oiled the machine.

I do hope your machine works well for you! And you will be able to enjoy sewing with it for a very long time.
