should I buy a 301a for $60?

According to another thread, the 301 is the favorite machine of the forum majority. Better get it. One comes my way, I'm going for it. If this group favors it, it must be good.

Weird. My first 301 was $35, in a cabinet, but missing upper tension parts. LBOW Shortbed
My second was $40, in the same lemon grass case, with Zig Zagger and attachments box. The motor bearing was seized up. Mocha Longbed
The third was $30, in a cabinet, with the "finger" out of place, and more thread than I've ever seen behind the bobbin case. LBOW Shortbed
Central Alberta isn't known for cheap machines,...

I think it's worth it. I had one and it had great stitch quality. I'm assuming it at least runs. I'd take the case too. Usually the case isn't even available. The zigzagger is a hoot. Since the machine only has a straight stitch, the zigzagger basically moves the fabric back and forth. Depending on the amount of fabric you're using it can be like being whipped with a fat quarter. I still have the zigzagger but gave the machine to a sister who lost it. Still miss it.

Heck yes! Looks just like the one I got last year. Been sewing and FMQ on it since. Piecing good too but I love my FW's for that. If I had the money I'd buy it and I don't even need another machine!!!
Careful with the case, I would hold it by the bottom and not stress out the handle / wood too much. Don't know how hard a life it's had and it could be fragile.

The lady at the Singer store here told me when I got my FW to never carry it by the handle, always use the handle to get it to where you need to in order to carry it in your arms. Otherwise, I put it in one of those $1 grocery bags.

I haven't seen a vintage case yet that doesn't need the TLC of being held from the bottom. Even the plastic cases - I picked one up and the handle gave out... at least it was before I got it very high...
