Welcome, Valinbean. I'm guessing that you have a pink machine. From my understanding these machines were made by Brother. There will probably be a "Brother" equivalent machine. These machine were made in the time where it was common to have many different names on the same machine. There is a facebook page for Pink Atlas Sewing machines at https://www.facebook.com/groups/544577085733663/ I used to belong to some Yahoo groups, that were quite helpful with my vintage machines. When Yahoo did away with groups, most migrated to either facebook or io.groups.

The machine will need a good cleaning and oiling. Sometimes that is all that is needed. It is possible that the machine has the wrong foot on it. How is the knob malfunctioning?

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Another way to post pictures can be found at 2021/2022, 2.5” Birthday Swap

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post.

Actually it's teal, white, and chrome, not pink. I found pictures of basically identical looking ones with Belair and Modernage name tags online, but I still wasn't able to find any specific info like a manual or anything.
Also, I was able to get it working; the nob was just stuck because of the old grease and loose springs but idk if the foot is supposed to move for the zigzag stitches or what because it only works with the zigzag set to zero. It definitely needs a thorough clean and re-grease, but it's surprisingly clean tbh, just a little dusty.

I'm using my phone right now, so I don't think it will let me post a picture, but I'll try on my computer when I get a chance. Here's a link to a picture of the Belair one that looks identical (hopefully it will work):

Trying to find a manual can be a problem. The places that used to be recommended are no longer in business. You may luck out if you keep looking.

As far as the foot moving - no! A couple of possibilities as for why it will hit the foot in zigzag mode would be either the wrong foot or settings wrong. The foot could be for a straight stitch only, but if it is a zigzag foot then it might be a foot for a machine that is for center "homing" machine. Many of these machine do not have a way for the needle position to be changed and are considered left homing machines. If your machine does not have the silver lever on the white top like the one seen at https://img.5milesapp.com/image/uplo...55wqoe3jx.webp then more than likely it is a left homing machine.

Make sure you have a zigzag plate and a zigzag foot. The needle plate for a left homing sewing machine would look like https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1002...sewing-machine and the zigzag plate would look like https://www.etsy.com/listing/1002650...sewing-machine

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your machine.

Some of these machines are fussy about whether the foot is up or down when you try to change things like width. With mine, I think it is foot down. It may seem like the knobs move but they really don't engage unless I have the foot down.

As far as Ourworkbench said -- the machines do have different plates for the zigzag, a wider slit rather than the single hole. Sad to say, sometimes I have left my quilting foot on after zigzag and I have indeed hit the foot. You really don't want to do that for any number of reasons!

One other thing that sometimes trips people up is whether or not there is a "darning" feature on their machine. This raises and lowers the feed dogs, so if the fabric is not moving you might look to see if you have a button or switch or something. Other machines have an accessory "darning plate" that fits over the base.

I forgot to ask if there are any JA or JC with a number on the bottom of the machine.

I think it's the wrong foot, thank you!
The hole in the foot is just barely big enough for the needle itself actually and does not match up with the hole in the plate which is a pretty long oval. It does have the silver lever.

It doesn't have a J, but it does have a Japanese letter that's kind of like a J, a space, and then a C5

It does have a "darning" and "sew" switch, but I think the problem is just that it has the wrong foot on it. Thank you though!

Okay, if you move that lever to the middle "M" then you should be able to straight stitch. Definitely do not change the zigzag from "0" until you get a zigzag foot. Do you have the straight stitch needle plate or any other feet for your machine? Since you have the lever, the needle plate would be different from the one I linked to earlier.

A high shank zigzag foot looks like https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/zi...nter-5555.aspx There are several other feet that can be used, but I am fairly certain that you would need those made for high shank machines. If you lower the presser bar, the hole for the attachment screw will measure 1" from the needle plate.

Here are the pictures. The color looks weird in the close up pictures, but it is definitely teal, not green. Also, I guess it is a weird J before the C, it just looked weird upside down and sideways when I was under it lol.

It does look like a high shank foot so the one you linked should work. I don't have any other plates or feet or anything, just what it had installed on it already.
As you may have guessed from my lack of knowledge, this is my first and hopefully last sewing machine (I say last because hopefully this will work for me for my whole life )

Thank you for the pictures.

You do have a "left homing" machine and the straight stitch plate would be like the one at https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1002...sewing-machine As you can see the feed dogs on the right side of the straight stitch presser foot.

It should last a good long while. Sometimes plastic parts become brittle and crack or break. Your machine looks like it has not been exposed to the heat and cold extremes that would hasten the deterioration of those parts
