Guilt free fabric shopping, Martina. Sounds like fun!!
We went on our vacation. I had mapped out exactly 1 quilt shop to keep me out of mischief. My husband saw a sign and pulled into a random shop on the way, and I purchased 2 yards of gorgeous fall fabric on sale for 1 day only. ( https://www.fabric.com/buy/0445811/k...ge-black-multi ).
I'm glad I did. We arrived at my destination quilt shop only to find it had closed last year! Happily, it wasn't too far off our route. So I didn't do too badly.

PaperPrincess: I'm glad you got a souvenir from your vacation.

I fell off! I went to an estate sale and I got there with an hour or so to spare. I didn't realize everything was going to be 1/2 off on most items. This was the same group of people hosting the sale where I went several weeks ago to the fabric sale and was happy to get fabric at that time for $2 a yard. So today, I picked up a few other things at the sale along with more fabric! . I got approximately 92 yards for $92 of nice cotton fabric. I also picked up some sheets for my church quilting group.

One of the adults running the sale asked me if I wanted to sort through the knits and box up the ones I wanted as she was donating them to the baby charity where I volunteer. I know this gal and told her about the charity at the first sale so she said she would give me the knits after this sale. I ended up with approximately 68 yards of knit fabric and 12 yards of sweatshirt fabric for the charity.

A win-win for both of us.

P.S. My personal stash probably tripled this summer! It was pretty small so it is fun to have fabric for my own projects even though I will probably end up using them in charity quilts. (I have lots of smaller strips and smaller cuts of fabric from both of my charity groups but that is designated for them. That's why my personal stash is special. )

I tiptoed off the wagon. Had 2 40% off coupons at the sewing machine store. I wanted to get new shoes for my machine but couldn't decide what I wanted. SO I bought a layer cake and a jelly roll in a color way that I don't have. Oops - how did that jump in my purse? Snicker snicker.....

Now that the weather is cooling, and we aren't playing 'favorite relatives with a cottage' as much, I've been finishing some of my completed tops. Backings! What a great way to use up lots of stash!!

Wow some estate sale I would have leaped off the wagon with total abandon! So far so good this month and yesterday I totally sweated making a barely there backing work so I would not have to go buy anything.

Connie, how wonderful to get decent fabrics for charity sewing...so often organizations get old drapes, worn sheets etc and expected to make "quilts" from them...yes they make sleeping pallets for the homeless, but there are families in homes that can use a warm quilt...

Okay I fell off a bit too. A gal came into the shop with 3 large bags of deconstructed denim..well laundered and sorted by lights and darks. Yes I brought them home....Then guild friends have been cleaning out and I have acquired 4 large boxes of scraps. Sorting this does take time, but have it pretty much under control...but do I need this. I have a hard time saving "no". Yes much will go for charity sewing, but you have to have time...bonus is when I retire I have a scrappy stash to work with. Another plus is, I bought this neat Fallscapes panel from workplace because it looks like land we own...only 2/3 of a yard and will not hoard it. Low and behold in one box were squares of fall fabric...enough to make a few flying geese on a border and some different, but matching 2 1/2" strips for binding...have first panel done...now working on the second...these are anniversary gifts for DD and DS who were both married in the fall. Not often will you find a scene that will remind them of home...here's link to the fabric.

I love your Fallscapes' flimsies, Oksewglad.

I went to my church quilting group yesterday and I was telling them about the donated knits and our lovely 84 year young host said, "Connie, please go through those piles and boxes and take out the knits you can use. There is another box under the table." I smiled and said sure.

A lady dropped off some boxes while I was sorting through the knits and I helped our host sort through those also. Needless to say, a few of those boxes ended up in my trunk along with the knits. .

We do get some 'unusable fabric' (like spandex or nylon). Sometimes it can go in the quilts as an extra layer and sometimes it just goes in the bag for USAGAIN.

P. S. My volunteer group that makes baby items was surprised when I arrived last night with more knits-about 46 pounds worth. Most of it was solid colored knits but it was good quality. It will make great baby t-shirts or baby gowns.
