Default help finding bread pudding recipe

My late mother made what she called bread pudding that she baked in a bread pan and it came out shaped like a loaf of bread that we sliced. Once baked, the bread wasn't obvious. I wish I had asked her for the recipe, but, of course, it's too late now.
I'm hoping someone can provide me with a similar recipe.
She came from Maine, so, her version might be regional.
I remember that she used stale white bread, sugar, raisins, molasses, and, I think an egg and maybe milk. She might have put some kind of spice in too, but can't remember.
Hope someone can help..I'd love to taste her delicious version again. It would be an old recipe as she
would have been 98 this year.
Thank you

My mother made bread pudding with same ingredients to your mother's except for the molasses. It was firm and not very sweet. We would serve it cold with a drizzle of pancake syrup. I never asked for her recipe either. This Cooks. com recipe looks like it would be similar to my mother's. MOLASSES BREAD PUDDING
Printed from COOKS.COM

10 slices stale bread, cubed
2 eggs
3 tbsp. molasses
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. milk, scalded
2 tbsp. butter, melted

Arrange bread cubes in well GREASED baking dish. Beat together eggs, molasses, sugar and salt. Add milk and butter. Pour over bread cubes. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until firm. Serve cold with milk or cream.

I checked out Paula Deen's recipe. It's a much sweeter custardy bread pudding.

My friend Sue in Virginia gave me this recipe. Can't get enough of it! Enjoy!

Bread Pudding with Lemon Sauce

4C hamburger rolls(NOT FRESH) 1/4 C raisins or cranberries
1C sugar 1 tsp vanilla
2C whole milk 2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 stick margarine

Crumble bread in mixing bowl.Add milk, let stand until bread gets soft. Add sugar, melted margarine & eggs, stir well. Add raisins & fold in,do not stir. Butter 9" glass baking dish. Pour pudding into dish & bake 350* for 45 min.or until brown on top.
TIPS: The milk must be whole milk or canned milk, otherwise the pudding will fall after removing from oven. Old bisquits cause the pudding to be too heavy, loaf bread causes it to be too thin.

LEMON SAUCE(for bread pudding)
In saucepan, combine:
1/3 cup sugar and
2 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
Add 1/2 cup water
1/4 cup Real Lemon juice
and 1 egg yolk
Mix well. Over mediun heat, cook & stir until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 TBL Margarine or butter until melted.
Use for topping on bread pudding.

I'm a bread pudding "addict". The one my mom used to make was also very firm. You could slice it and hold it in your hand to eat. Like you, I never asked her for the recipe. Someone mentioned Paula Deen. She has a chocolate bread pudding recipe that I like a lot and have made several times. I am not a fan of "custardy" bread pudding.

There are many recipes out there that are very tasty. I will say that the best I have eaten incorporate all kinds of breads: stale donuts, french bread, bagels, wheat bread. They just need to be slightly stale to make a good dessert. One restaurant that had the best bread pudding used all their breads and donuts etc from the day before. They made a drizzley white frosting that was delicious and almost all have cinnamon/raisins and nuts.

In the UK bread pudding is solid enough to slice , and you can use any old bread , but we add cinnamon, nutmeg cloves and dried fruit (meaning currants, raisons or sultanas)it is a little moist in the middle and is sold in almost every cake shop
